Hey guys. I am just curious as to those who switched from a manual trans on past Stangs to an auto on the new '05. Do you miss rowing through the gears, or is all this hype about the new auto being so much better than expected true? I love the fun of a standard trans, but I gotta say, rush hour would be a serious pain in the without an auto.

Hey There,

I made the switch from the manual (But not a mustang) and have no regrets. The auto V-6 is as good as it gets (IMHO). I do have a whine during accelleration however, and that's a problem for now.

I too am converting to auto. I been driving a manual since 1987. B) I just sold my 02 mustang, and I am driving a 90 TBird, automatic. Tell you what, it takes some getting used to! I keep pushing on a clutch that doesnt exist! I have stomped on the brake with my left foot as if it were a clutch! I take my foot off the brake at a red light, and I move. The biggest thing is I keep forgetting to put it into park and the car wont let me have my key! This is good practice until my 05 gets here, hopefully mid January.

Whenever my car's in the shop and I have to borrow my mother's auto taurus I find that while it's more relaxing and easier to drink coffee or answer the cell phone I pay less attention in heavy traffic (since it's easier) and drive worse occationally. Driving overall with auto is more comfortable but more passive...I'm staying with stick for my upcomming '05 but I could see why someone would want auto...

I'm the only one in my house that drives a stick. Everyone would kill me if I didn't get the auto so they can drive it too. That and a bad left leg makes it simple for me. Probably will regret the decision at times but an auto makes more sense for me as a daily driver in traffic.

I went from a manual 94 Mustang to an auto 05 GT.

I sometimes regret that decision.

The 05 GT automatic can be sluggish. I've made comments about that before. It can lag pretty bad. I'm not sure if it's throttle lag or gear changing lag or what. But there are times when it takes it's sweet time putting on the afterburners. Instead of instant acceleration, I sometimes get weak acceleration folllowed by strong acceleration a second or more later.

I think this is an 'acceleration' issue that would probably be attributed to both Manual and Automatic???? It's an electronic throttle control.....
