Does your shift handle have a line going from left to right, right on the top of the handle? Doesn't this look like it should of been sanded before it had the silver put on it? Looks like a mold mark? What gives?

I don't know why they didn't have the seam on the front where it wouldn't show?

I don't see that line here, but I suppose it could be something they've changed.

Maybe it was molded in silver.

So it seems like everyone has it. What a place to put a seam, right on top! I don't understand.

It's just where the two parts of the mold come together, is it very rough or sharp? What is wrong with it, or is it just a cosmetic problem?

Its a logical place for a parting line. Extra cost to sand/buff that out on the molder's side.

No disrespect...but speaking as someone who hasn't gotten thier's yet, it's not a big deal. I'd love to see that line on mine. It would mean that i have mine.

Its more cometic than anything else. I agree no big deal but its one of those things I dealt with in business. It dosen't take any additional effort or cost not to have that line there. You can talk about sanding or placement of the line elsewhere. Ford should of held the supplier to a higher standard. Kind of like getting your car with the GT logo on the fender applied crooked. No big deal you, not a performance issue just shouldn't be. I'm not going to take it back or make an issue of it I just wanted to know if mine was to only one?

It does seem strange that they wouldnt make sure this of all parts-where your hand constantly touches isnt smooth. However it is good to know that everyone has it, and it isnt just on yours.

It doesn't???? Molds for a plastic part are very expensive, for them to make a new mold just so that line isn't there wouldn't make sense. Also, to slow down production for the machine operator to sand down that line would drive up the cost of that part.

Give me a break. My brother is a tool and die maker and deals with this stuff all the time. It should of been made with the seam elsewhere. If you can't and have to sand it as a last resort then the part goes from $2.00 to $3.00. Or I guess you think the GT logo should be crooked because it costs more to put it on straight. No big deal but to say it would take the jobber more time or money, trust me my customers would of never accepted this as an excuse when I was in business. Again at the risk of another analogy its like having the seams in your seat sewn crooked.

Sanding would probably dull the finish on the top where the seam is removed. I am an engineer and have worked for an injection molding company, so I have some experience in the field.

Or instead of sanding or changing the mold, they could have capped it with a U shaped piece of aluminum (or faux aluminum) for 20 cents.

Or get a manual and save about $1,000.
