Question about the Ford grilles for 05-09

Something's bugging me.

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/galler...hp?i=20354&c=3

That's a perfect pic for what I'm bugged about. All the grilles have only a few holes in them. The rest are blocked off.

Is it an aesthetic thing or a mechanical or airflow or...?

Why for it's not opened up?

/wonders where teh  smilie is be at...
//ok, fixed it I think, nvm mods.

Supposedly the engine had difficulties reaching normal operating temperature with them open I'm sure someone with more detailed info will chime in.

Even with a lot of them closed off , the openings on these cars are large and allow more air under the hood than the previous years. When they first came out the stock hoods were blowing off on the racing circuit , that's why you see a lot of race cars with 4 hood pins instead of just 2 ...

Questions for further knowledge:

Optimum temperature... that's what thermostats are for, yeah?

Flying hoods... somehow I don't think this is it. Perhaps deformed ones? This I can maybe see...

My question is: If I just *take off* the grille... what is that going to do? Anything? Nothing?

Yeah, it'll be ugly, and yeah, it'll be more dirty inside... other than that...?

With all of the holes opened up, it also caused more front end lift at high speeds. Blocking off some of the holes forced more air around and over the car's hood (instead of into the engine compartment and under the car) increasing aerodynamics and stability.

Up to legal highway speeds (70 to 75 mph in a few states), I doubt opening the entire grill will cause much noticable difference in handling and mpg (aerodynamics). There are a few aftermarket grills that open up the whole area.

It's not cool to see when you're the other car on the dragstrip!! Happened to me this past summer. The car I was running, a '66 Nova with a 'glass hood, lost the hood as he was going through the traps. He was about 3 seconds ahead of me (we were heads-up grudge match racing, and he was FAST!) The hood came down right on the center line just as I reached it. I was all over the brakes, I think my trap speed that run was like 59 MPH! It took a good 10 minutes or so for my pulse to slow back down.

Ok, it's my thread, but it's still on topic:

Anyone know of any fog light system/mount that'll go on the lower grille area where the two solid honeycomb pieces are? I haven't seen any...
