Thumbs up

I have a quick question that I am hoping you might be able to help me out with regarding a Mustang order I have. I put in an order at a smaller dealership on Nov 15 and there still hadn't been any change in status (still C/U) and the dealership seems pretty clueless and unhelpful as far as giving me any insight about their allocation or when they expected it to be pulled. Because of this, I started to call other dealerships to see if they had anything similar to what I ordered or were expecting anything like that in stock that they'd already ordered. I had no luck that route, but one dealer that I spoke with (the dealership's inventory manager) told me that they had an order that had just been serialized with a VIN and assigned a build date, that was originally for dealer stock, that they can change around to fit my specs of what I wanted to originally ordered at the other dealership. Now, it was previously my impression that once an order was pulled that no changes could me made to the order. This involves changing the order's color, and adding quite a few options. Are they really able to do this? I went ahead and placed the order through them but just wanted some clarity and confirmation that it really can be done.

Thanks in advance!

Yes you can change it. And also, it won't cause a delay if the order is C/U.

I thought the same as you did. Once and order has been pulled, changes cannot be made.

You should know one way or the other pretty quick. Don't most orders go from serialized to a build week within a few days? If they don't get a build week soon you know the change had an impact. I would also want to be very certain in this situation that the changes actually were made. Delivery would be the wrong way to find out. Good luck with this, hope you get a car soon.

I made 2 changes to my order and doing so bumped the production date. It all comes down to if it is scheduled and what changes you are making. If changing rims then that is not a big deal, if changing colour and IUP for example, well, that should bump the date.

Completely wrong. You can change the order at any time until it is built. However, any time after C/U, the changes may delay the order.

Well when I did this, the car had already been serialized and assigned a Build date of March 14... The existing order was mineral gray GT premium with the only option being IUP. I changed it to sonic blue with IUP and also added all other options with the exception of an auto transmission

Once your order is serialized the next step is a scheduled build date. You can have the dealer make changes to the order until your status is LOCKED. This occurs when the scheduled build date is 10 days away. Once production begins your staus will change to BUCKED. If you look on the documents section of the main page, you will find the "Dealer Status Inquiry Glossary" that explains all these terms.

Ok well according to that doccument I believe I have 10 days before my build date to make changes to the order, therefor I guess what the dealer promissed me is actually legit. Awesome -- about time something happens for me! I think I'm going to keep track of my original order to see how long it would have taken me had I not begun to look around

Can you confirm this Karpo?

I've tried it in the past and can usually get about 3 to 4 total changes including color and options. It does have to happen fairly soon after the car getting scheduled and can be done once it gets locked in. The nice thing is once you make the changes you will know within a day or so whether they actually got accepted.

Good luck.
