Problems shifting into first gear ('07 GT)?

Hello, all:

I have been following this site nearly since its inception, and figured it's time to become a memeber.

I have a question that I'm sure someone can help me with. I have an '07 GT five-speed, and I absolutely love it; however, every once in awhile, it seems as though, when shifting into first gear from a stop, I have to apply a little too much muscle to get it into gear. It doesn't do it all of the time -- in fact, other than the few instances I've described above, the shifting in my car is very smooth.

Is anyone else experiencing problems such as this? Thank you.

Not to be a smart ***, but try pushing the clutch all the way into the floor. If that doesn't help, have the dealer check it out before too much time passes.

This happens to me every once and a while. Just try lifting off the clutch all the way and then push it down again. This seems to allow me to shift into gear much easier.

fullthrottle is right, that's how i use to do it,you can also drop it down to 2nd then back to first.Or you can get a tri ax shifter like me and have no problems you really wont belive the difference this shifter makes it's like a different car

I don't know how familiar you are with "manuals"... but your issue occasionally occurs with all standard transmissions, including motocycles. What you described is normal. If it happens with more frequency, then I would have it looked at...

There could be air in the hydraulic system. Try pumping the clutch pedal several times (it's the method described in the factory service manual).

I found that when it gets a little tough to shift into first, I've been lazy with the clutch and haven't depressed it far enough. Only seems to happen in first gear. Check your seat adjustment to see if you are close enough to the pedals - I cheat a bit and sit further back so I don't rub my right knee against the console.

I own a 07 V6 and I have been experiencing the same problem. I took it into Ford. They did not find anything wrong. The shop foreman suggested I start off in second. It happened to me yesterday and I put it in second just to get it to move and switch to 1st. It worked perfectly.

FYI I experienced the same thing. I could reproduce the problem every single time.

1). With the shifter in Neutral, pull the e-brake.
2). Clutch out (depress clutch pedal)
3). Clutch in (release clutch pedal).
4). Clutch out, shift into 1st gear (experience some resistance getting into gear, no grinding though).

I can reproduce it in reverse and the other gears as well.

I've experienced the same type of resistance when downshifting into 2nd gear as I come to a stop, but I wrote it off as improper rev matching.

Thats just your syncronizers matching the speeds of the gears to the wheels. when you push in the clutch then immediately try and put it in gear, the syncros don't have time to match up right and it takes a little effort to push it into gear. Nothing abnormal, nothing to worry about.

Thank you "theedge67"

That sounds about right. I generally have this problem when i am sitting at a light in neutral and the light changes. Then feeling the pressure to go... LoL, I immediately push in my clutch and not even a seconds, I try putting it in 1st gear and of course, I get resistance or it does not move at all. Thanks for the explanation.

I experience the same resistence when going from neutral at a light into 1st. Sometimes it's easy, other times it's not. I've experienced this with other manual trannies too.
