Ford just verified that Job#2 will be November 29, 2004. The price level code will become 530. They have not let us know how much the increse will be but it's coming. Typically the increase is anywhere from $150 to $500. Those that have orders in ahead of time are price protected, so don't let your dealer tell you otherwise.

For those buying at $X over invoice, get the actual purchase price on paper before the increase so they don't try to charge the amount over the new invoice price.

As soon as I get the new price list, I'll pass it along.

Happens on EVERY vehicle in the line up, multiple times per year. Has nothing to do with just the Mustang, all vehicles will be effected. It will also happen a couple of more times before the 2006 prices get announced, common practice. The give minimal price increases throughout the year, as opposed to one giant one at model year changeover.

 

They'll do this right in the beginning of a model year??? :scratch: Is that normal? Hope not! :notnice: Why raise the price now? So later when the 05's are as common as the 04's they can offer an even larger rebate???

You can only eat(absorb) the cost for so long in the retail business.

If from 2005 to 2006 they announce a $1,000 price increase everyone goes nuts. If they raise it couple hundred here, couple hundred there at model change they can announce "no price increase" and everyones thrilled. They did it with the 2004 to 2005 jump, but if you look back at 2004 intoductory pricing you'll see a much more significant increase.

Just marketing, all manufacturers do the same thing. I wish they would just do one giant jump at model change, would make the leftovers easier to sell.

 

Karpro, my car came off the line middle of the day on 11/11/04 since the 12th was a AAI holiday the car still shows bucked in the computer, not released. At what time is the invoice firm? They told me they won't trust the numbers until one is mailed to them. Since my price is based on invoice cost I'm concerned if the car arrives on Nov 30th they use current increased pricing. At what point is a copy of the true invoice pricing available? I was told they ordered it retail with my name on it but in either case when is pricing firm and a copy obtainable?

 

What constitutes the MSRP you are paying for the car: When you place the order at your dealership and they issue you a copy of this said order (one of which you signed).....or the price whatever it is when they pull your order for build at the factory? :scratch:

Well then you would be in trouble if the price increase came before you got your car ... because you would be paying the new invoice plus a number.

 

Make sure your dealer doesn't play games with you. Sold orders are price protected, so the price increase is refunded to the dealer. The pricing is set right around the actual build date, this is when the car is actually invoiced to the dealer. If you agreed to $x over, make sure they don't try to grab you for the increase if your order was placed prior to the price increase.

 

I think what I may do in that case is place my order, and then if I encounter some hiccups (going slow at work ) I can always cancel. At least this way I can potentially save a few hundred dollars.

No, the dealer may discount the vehicle to offset it or Ford will eventually offer a rebate but the MSRP will always be whatever it was when the vehicle arrived.
