Price comparison of Mustang GT, GT/CS, Shelby GT, GT500
I priced out a Premium Mustang GT, Mustang GT/CS, Shelby GT, and Shelby GT 500 and thought I would share the results.
I priced out the 1st 3 with:
1. The options I would want (manual, IUP, side air bags, active anti-theft, 18" wheels, 3:55s gears, wheel locks),
2. current incentives ($1000 for Mustang GT and GT/CS)
3. Gas guzzler tax - GGT ($1000 on Shelby GT and $1300 on GT500)
4. $745 Destination Charge
Note: GT/CS and Shelby GT both come with the 18" wheels, and the Shelby GT also comes with the 3.55s and side airbags. I didn't want any of the GT 500 options so none were added).
I also factored in that one can easily obtain an X-Plan pin on the GT and GT/CS and that the best deal that one could hope for on the Shelbys is MSRP (I know this is currently very difficult on the GT500 but it is possible).
For the GT and GT/CS I used invoice price since I didn't have access to X-Plan price (the 2 prices are usually pretty close)
I assumed that the current $1000 incentive was not available on the Shelbys and the GGT was not included in the $36,970 Shelby GT starting cost.
So here's the grand totals based on the above: (Invoice on GT & GT/CS and MSRP for Shelbys, options/incentives/GGT/destination charge)
1. Premium Mustang GT: $26,741 (invoice with $1000 incentive)
2. Mustang GT/CS: $27,672 (invoice with $1000 incentive)
3. Shelby GT: $39,550 ($36,970 + IUP +antitheft +wheellocks +$1000 GGT)
4. Shelby GT 500: $43,025 (MSRP with no options and $1300 GGT)

Don't forget that a Roush 427R can be had for about $41k.
Or about $1500 more than the Shelby GT.
And then there is my new 06, MSRP of $34300, that I got for $27200.
I could send it off to get the Roush Roadster for $13281 + shipping.

Assuming you are in the US and want a Mustang GT or GT/CS, order it from a dealer that is receptive to Xplan pins (anywhere in the US) and have it drop shipped to a local dealer. Drop shipments add ~$150-$400 to your X plan price.

I did the same pricing exercise. Plus on the Shelby GT it looks like you need to add $5,000 to $10,000 for ADM and on the GT500, I think the ADM is still $10,000 to $15,000. Once I figured all that in, I ended up buying a loaded Premium GT convertible on the x-plan (invoice minus $100) and I am planning on making changes to it so from a performance standpoint, I basically have a Shelby GT convertible or better for a lot less money.

Mark, the "hi" in my user name means Hawaii. Depending on who you ask, sometimes it's part of the US, sometimes not. LOL.
I tried your suggestion a while back, and after reviewing the numbers, that made it a wash. For example, the "courtesy delivery fee" I was quoted by the local dealers was in excess of $600. (NOT A TYPO!) The additional hassle involved negated any hope for meaningful savings.
NONE of the dealers here will accept X-plan (it's their option, right?).
I was then referred by a co-worker to a fleet sales manager who sells to the local PD. No luck there, not even MSRP.
A last-ditch attempt was through a "family connection" - an aunt's brother works at one of the dealerships (she gets D-plan pricing), but that too, didn't pan out. Nope, nowhere near MSRP either (unless you consider $1000+ or so "close"). Having only 3 dealerships on Oahu, we are a "captive market". I even e-mailed a complaint to Ford, but we all know how that goes. After that, I decided to just walk away. Currently looking for a good, used "beach mobile" definitely not a Ford.
