It looks here that they only offer the 4.2. N/A and S/C.

Well, first of all, I assume you guys know that Jaguar is owned by Ford. But the engines in the cars are not the same - so I'm not sure why this is being discussed? The current 4.2L V8 that is being offered in Jaguars is based off from the first V8 Jaguar ever developed (known as the AJ V8 internally). It was originally a 4L V8, to replace the venerable 4L I6 (like the motor our Jaguar XJ6 has). The 4.6L V8s that Ford makes are modular, but they are not the same motor as Jaguar uses in their cars.

They weren't the same engine, and they weren't based off of the same engine. The next Cobra will be based off of the existing 4.6 or 5.4 modular lines. Good try though. B)

Yeah it's pretty close to official that the new Cobra will have a 5.4 L engine. I have a book where Hau Thai-Tang is quoted in saying that the Mustang engine bay was made to fit larger engines than the 4.6L. It was a total HINT toward Mustang Fans. I like hints.
Yes the Jag has a 390HP 4.2L engine. I seriously doubt the Jag will carry the same engine a Mustang will carry. Jaguar owners like to feel exclusive to their cars. And if they have an engine that is also in a Mustang, that may very well turn off alot of buyers. Do you think Mercedes will drop a HEMI inside one of their SL series cars? I dont think so. Good try though.

Another guess could be, because the car is coming out in late 2006, is that the new hurricane motor could be ready and be bolted-in. It would be a great promo for both the Cobra and the new engine.

Whats the displacement on that hurricane motor?
Because i have heard from a relatively "high up" ford employee/mustang fanatic that the cobra will for a fact be powered by a 5.4 liter with an Eaton twin-screw pump. He also said that SuperCooling is being considered as well.

I've only heard about this "Hurricane" motor from these forums. I really would like to read about it sometime. As of right now the Major Car mags say they expect the 5.4L in the Cobra as well. Coletti or someone inside SVT hinted it'd be an engine from the Trucks.

I think that if we see an SE with the 5.4 in it, then the cobra will have something different, maybe the hurricane motor. I would like to see something in the 6L range. If an SE like a Mach 1 or Boss comes out with a modified 4.6, then I would expect the Cobra to have the 5.4. I dont think that a Mach 1 or Boss will have a 4.6 though because I think ford is pushing the limits on what they can get the 4.6 to put out without a supercharger.

My local ford dealer said he heard a rumour that the new cobra will be front drive, 7 cylinder engine, have displacement on demand, sell for under $15,000, and be manufatured by GM for Ford based on the last gen chevy cavalier.
