Poping sound in steering.

I only notice this when im backing out of or pulling into somewhere. Also it only seems to happen when I crank my wheel to the left. When I get to the halfway point there is a pop. I listened a couple times with the windows down and it sounds like its close to the front bumper. Before I take it somewhere anyone have thoughts on what this could be?

If I remember right, this has something to do with the bushings on top of the strut tower.

Found the TSB. Sounds exactly like the problem im having. Anyone know how much a repair like this would cost or how urgent the matter is?

If it is the strut bearings, it's not going to fail. It's just really annoying. Many, many, many of us have had this problem including me and the only way I found to eliminate this is to change the struts and bearing to the 2011-13 style. I did this swap and that fixed MY problem. I had tried changing to the "new" style of strut bearing for the 2005-10 S197 and it didn't do a thing.

Guys, please take a flashlight and look at your outer tie rod boots...I put pics up long ago, the rubber boots deteriorated within 2 yrs on my 06, were torn completely within 4 yrs... I'm guessing that like underside hood lip corrosion, this will be a common mustang issue.

I replaced mine with some red energy suspension urethane ones and regreased, luckily before the rod ends were shot...so far so good. 4.99 at autozone for a pair. A failing tie rod end can make popping noises too, just worry folks might attribute it to a common strut bearing noise- irritating, but not imminently dangerous... A broken tierod is a huge deal, and I'm convinced that every mustang out there has these cheep-*** boots on them...mine you could crumble in your fingers, car was never oil sprayed or anything of the like, my wife's 07 was the same way.

The energy suspension ones are a tight fit, kinda a pain to get to pop on, but are holding grease fine so far...and with a syringe it's easy to regreased up under the bottom lip when doing oil changes.

Here's pics:https://themustangsource.com/f739/ch...6/#post6312153

There's also a known issue with the front swaybar endlinks either loosening up or wearing out prematurely. It can create a clunk up front

Sorry guys i forgot to mention those things too... oops. Like the guys said check all the above. I noticed that my front sway bar bushings (the ones that attach to the frame of the car) were loose.

So for an update, the tire rod boots were still in ok shape and werent the issue. When i was rooting around under the car I accidentally bumbed the wheel well cover and it practically fell out. I noticed all but one of the 1/4 turn fastners were gone. So when I was turning it was shifting and catching the wheel. Sounded exactly like the poping sound form the tie rods. So ill be stoping by the dealership today to get some more of them....While I felt pretty stupid, nice to know thats all it was. Would have never noticed it if I didnt bump the panel on accident. So I guess a lesson here is check your fastners from time to time too lol....
