I ended up trying to polish the covers as you did, but I was never really satisified with the look. I used a dremel tool and a lot of elbow work too. But still;, they were on the cusp of being there. Anyway, I ended up taking them both daon to shiney metal and then applied two coats of primer and then two coats of high heat enamel red. They look awesome! Here is a pic of one of them. I will install thses in the morning and take another pic of the finshed product.

I'll take some right after they are in. I too am wondering about how they will hold up. Not sure why they would not unless the heat is just too much. But I have painted others in the past and they worked out fine. Guess I will have to wait and see.

Byt he way, I ordered an intake cover from Midwest yesterday. Black with the GT logo. I plan on painting the ridges and the GT red as well. It should look really good.... hopefully.

I painted mine with a black wrinkle paint, which has held up just perfectly. It actually dries where it is really hard, and it even hard to chip off if you try. I love the stuff.

OK - not an automotive mechanical genius here, so be patient. How difficult is it to remove these and reinstall. Any special tricks to know so I don't screw something up?

BTW - it looks AWESOME - great job.

7mm for the coil over screws, 8mm for the valve cover screws and an 8mm box end wrench to help when needed. A couple of different length extensions for your sockets, a universal if you have one will make a couple of the bolts easier to get in and out.

Loosen all of the cover bolts, remove the coil over bolts and pull the plug adapters out of the holes and put them outta the way. Remove the cover bolts, wiring connections (two I think), the hose from both sides of the covers and the snaps for the wiring hold downs. You will need to remove your air intake as well to give you more room.

I was working at night and kept dropping the sockets, but it only took about an hour to get them off and another to get them back on again.

I noticed the "Zaino" in your sig. I love the stuff.. wish it could be bought locally though. I use the Z2 Pro (3 Coats) w/Accelerator, Z-8 and car wash as well. Put 3 coats of Z-5 too!

Where did you get the paint and what brand? Is this the type of paint you can get at an auto parts store? Do the valve covers have reuseable gaskets or did you have to buy some new ones?

Got the paint at a hardware store. And the valve cover gaskets are very sturdy rubber and can be re-used. You can use regular enamel or you can use the heat resistant paint as you would for a BBQ grill. But colors other than black and white are difficult to find it seems.
