plastic around handbrake fading

hi everyone, i have a little problem the plastic at the base of the hand brake (where the hand brake goes into when not in use) is changing colors. it was black and now its practically yellow. i went to the dealer and they said its just fading but i told him why would it fade to yellow and his reason was that because i have a convertible the sun hit it and thats why it changed so they dont want to do anything about it. is there anyone else out there with this problem?! please help!

Well that just plain stinks

I'm pretty sure that would be covered under warranty. I would take your car to a new dealer because they should replace it.

I hope one day SOMEONE at Ford will take a hard look at their dealerships and crack the whip a little.

Did you try to clean it? It looks like it could be cleaned. Maybe some vinyl protectant will help stop it from happening.

If not remind them 3/36 bumper to bumper!!

Ask them how much the new part is. Might be worth it just to buy it instead of wasting gas driving around.

yeah that might be the easiest way to go, but if the warranty is bumper to bumper then it should be covered. dont want to let them get away with stuff like this.

should be covered under warranty if it is defective....plain and simple. However, I do suggest you try cleaning it first, after all, it is rubber and there is a good chance that something did get on it. It will only take you a few minutes to clean it with with a damp cloth. If that doesn't remove it then yes, it should be replaced. However, in the future I do suggest that you protect the rubber with some sort of vinyl/rubber protectant. After all, you do have a vert and the sun will fade the interior quickly, which would not be covered under warranty. Afterall, care care is the owners responsibility.

i have tried cleaning it with a damp cloth but its no use. the color faded its not black anymore its yellow. my first thought was that it had been stained by something but when i took a closer look its the rubber, the color has gone from it.

That should be replaced. No question asked.
