I would love to be able to pick up my pony from the factory instead of the dealer. I saw one member did that and I was wondering how I can do it. I would love to be able to see it come off the line. Is it easy to arrange? I know GM does/did that with the vettes, but i havent heard too much about ford doing it.

Even if you can, why would you want to, you still will have to pay the same price, and a dealer is supposed to make sure everything is right. When they ship it from the factory it's a newborn which needs to be pampered before handing it over to it's mother or father.

if I could do it I would too.... I know too many people that have worked as lot techs that just beat the crap out of cars... it may only have 3 miles, but they could have been very abused miles. I want to be the only one abusing my car.

I wanted to do the same also. My buddy told me I could so I inquired about it and was told that Ford does not allow that. It has to go to the dealer first before a consumer can get it. Plus quality holds may cause delays, as most ford cars are not released the day they are made.

Dealers make sure all the fluids are topped off, the cars run ok etc. If there is a problem, they can take care of it right away.
I worked at a Ford plant where the cars come off the line, if you saw how they drive them off the line, it would make you cringe. they squeal the tires right off the line, out the door.

It's not always the case that the dealer has to do the inspection. (PDI)
My dealer never even say my car. It came straight to me. And as you can see in my sig, I dove it off the truck myself so no one else was messing with my car but me.

To answer the original question, no you can't pick up your car from the factory. I'm guessing the person you're thinking about is MustangDan. Here is the thread where he stopped by AAI on his way home from picking up his car.

I'm sure StangNut has "connections" in order to do that.
Think of the liability!

Sort-of. The company I was working for at the time had a Ford rop ship code because we receive a lot of Ford cab & chassis for us to work on. The salesman (Karpro) just entered our drop ship code instead of theirs when he ordered the car.

There's really nothing to a PDI. It's just a simple checklist anybody could do.

Hey, metfoo That's OK. The reason I knew what thread you had read was I made the same mistake.
