A friend of mind had an '01 in performance red and I loved the color and am thinking of getting my '05 in the similar torch red but I'm wondering what the difference is between the colors. They look the same in pictures. Is one more orangy or darker than the other?
Thanks for any help...

Here's an '01 performance red with an aftermarket stripe kit so it has a similar
color sceme as the mach above....the colors just look the same to me.
In some of the pics I've seen the performace reds look more light/orangy...but of course it's subjective to the lighting/camera.

I'm almost wondering if Ford might have just changed the name...where would I find paint codes?

Hmmm, I really would have to see both cars sitting next to one another to tell the difference.

They are too close to tell the difference. They both look great and are not 'orangy' although they sometimes look it in pics. I had a jalapina red 86 that was much more orange.

I don't mind flat reds that are a little orangy...they remind me of my old '73 (below) that I miss big time...although I think that car was a lighter red because the paint was getting a little old...

Your '73 vert is awesome looking. I can understand why you would miss it. B)

My old 93' GT was Vibrant Red -- very orangy, and a very cool color

I thought Performance red was too orange as well ....

Torch Red is like fire engine red.

Torch Red and Performance Red are nice but if you really want a shade of red that pops out at you, then get Redfire. This color is just awesome when it glistens in the sunlight. I've got it on my 03 v6 and I just love the color.

BTW, have you seen the new pics of the redfire 05 GT....

i disagree there. I believe Torch pops out at you more, while redfire is a subtler, deeper red.

Torch is brigher and more orangy than Performance Red. Its hard to tell from pictures because it depends on the lighting. The first Mach 1 pic is great lighting for Torch red, but not quite how it looks.
You have it backwards.

Performance Red is more "orangey" than Torch Red.

Performance Red really looks "orangey" under streetlights.

I should know, I have a Performance Red GT and have had it parked right next to a Torch Red Mach 1. As someone else said Torch Red has less orange in it. It is more like Fire Engine Red.

Thanks, that's what I was looking to find out. It's too bad they didn't keep performance red...I thought it was really unique, and I loved the way it looked with the new for '01 dark accents like the bulitts and the smoked headlights.
Torch red probably has a broader appeal though. Is it the red they use on focuses?

I wonder what next year's colorado red will look like...
