If it's passive it shouldn't shut down your car I would think. Have you check your battery.

Never mind, did some research. Wish I could help you. Have you done a search on the forum?

Isn't that passive just the key with the embedded chip or whatever? What about taking your battery cable on and off so the ECM resets?

Tried that already! no I read the owners manual and it says something about the fail safe mode, which the computer thinks someone is trying to steal the car,so it sets the anti theft system to lock down mode. Looks like i might be calling a lock smith to reset it.the last time it did this similar thing was while car was in the body shop back in 2005 for so long. I had to pay a lock smith $50 to reset it and crank car,he had it running in less than 15 minutes. Just trying to figure it out before calling the lock smith,Looks I might not have any other choice but to do so.

Do you have another key that you can use as 'master' and then go through the sequence (in the owners man) to reprogram the bad key?

It sounds like something magnetic has corrupted your transducer in the bad key so your car doesn't recognize it anymore.

I've tried both keys & still nothing happens. It's raining today and tomorrow ,but once it slacks up ,I'll try to reprogram the other key and see what happens. maybe it has lost it program also.

Remember, you need two good keys to program another...

My 5 speed quit starting last year. It was the netural safety switch that the clutch pedal depresses that went bad. To check this just jumper the 2 wire connections.

Thanks for the info,I'll try that in the next day or so. I've been out of work because of an accident at work from a fall( been diagnose with inner ear concussion) so I'm not able to work on car except when I'm not dizzy and even then it's usually only about 15-30 min at a time, then I have to sit down and re-cooperate before I can do anything else.
