Why does everyone think the brake is that horrible looking? Any parking brake I have seen (in a car) looks like that. Someone post a picture of a "nice looking" brake, cause to me it's just a parking brake. lol

One thing I have always wondered though.. Why don't they just use the pedal below the dash like the f150's and explorer etc..

It's brake bro, B-R-A-K-E.

It just looks a little bit awkward. Not that the SN95 is necessarily a great interior design, but the parking brake handle is fairly well integrated. The handle on the '05 just looks tacked on, and I can see it stabbing you in the ribs if you jump in the car too fast. They put the brake in the center console because it is more sporty (for those hand brake power slides :P ) and because there generally isn't enough room for your leg/knee to actuate one in the floor board like you can in a truck.

Eh, its down when your driving. If it really bothers you, I'm sure they'll be an aftermarket replacement that'll look better.

The look of the e-brake won't keep me up at night. Easy to fix, don't worry about it.

Also, they can't use a foot pedal because where are you going to rest your left foot when you take it off the clutch? Plus, I find it more convienent where it is.

Having a hand brake sure makes it easier to go uphills from a stand still. Having both feet on pedals, plus stooping over to get the e-brake handle is no fun with pedal e-brakes.

My one big beef with the hand brake is why is it on the drivers side? Every car I've ever owned had it on the passenger side.

As much as I love the new Stang the handbrake does look like crap and when you pull it it comes up so high you might want to watch out not to dent the roof.

Now this is the one in my Renault:

Agreed. Doesn't really bother me at all. But I do see where people who don't particularly like it are coming from. I won't be changing mine at all.

I agree, It looks just fine to me.

That makes sense. Now I see why it's not below the dash. Maybe ford only does that in vehicles that come standard with an auto?

Man, that one in the GTO is FUGLY!

The one thing I like about the one in the 05 is that it is right next to the shifter, so that is very nice for doing 180s (or 270s if you really know what you are doing)!

Well, If it's in the way too bad, you can just perform the heel/toe manuver on a hill. It's not that bad if you practice a little. It looks like it tucks in nicely when its down though.

Actually, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the J-turn was where you have the car in reverse, and you crank the wheel, do a 180, then put it in 1st and continue moving the same direction you were already going.

Whenever I've done those I never needed the parking brake, but maybe I'm confusing the meaning of J-turn.
