Painted Cam Covers Retro Style
I debated a long time about what to do with my cam covers, because I had to do something. I considered polishing. Polishing looks real good, but it’s a lot of work or a lot of money. When I decided to paint I considered several different colors. Black and silver were logical choices, but I felt like the covers would not stand out enough with either color. I saw some red ones that looked pretty good, but still not what I was looking for. Then it came to me; Ford Corporate blue, or Ford dark blue. For those of you that are too young to remember, Ford blue was used on basically every Ford engine from about 1966 through 1973. (Upper right photo is of my 1967 Mercury Cougar 289-4V.)
It’s a little shocking, but I like the it and it matches my C&L pieces too!
Later, I may add a "Power(ed) by Ford" sticker to each cover.

I Had been Kicking that Blue around Myself. Now Get One of those Engine Covers have it plastic chromed and Make up an Orange Engine Tag and There it is! Retro Cool!
kc
kc
That looks great! And as you said, it matches the C&L very nice. I've been thinking of painting mine also (especially after seeing the red covers) but didn't know what color to use. I really like this, the only thing I would worry about is having too much blue in there (Sonic Blue car). But I've got a silver intake cover, so maybe I'll go with silver.
It's great to see pictures of other people's choices though, helps with my decisions.

Thanks for all of the compliments! I really thought that at least a few people would not like the color and say so. I was surprised, but it wouldn't matter anyway, I like it and it's my car.
And yes kc, those are the decals I was thinking about. I just wish they were a little smaller.

Nice job, looks great. But I was wondering how you painted them? Did you pull the covers off, or paint them in place? Again really great job....

PS: Just wondering what was the torque value when you put the covers back on? Or did you just tighten till tight? I believe there is a torque value on them, just wondering? Thanks for any info...
Well if I'm being honest. I don't care for it with Legend Lime, but I know there were thousands (in the past) built that way, I was alive then (Although the complete engine was painted), so
for the blue. idea. May as well go with a chrome Intake cover and have an orange decal made to boot.

ohhh man I love it!!! Thanks now I have another thing to add to the list,
it reminds me of my fathers 66 T-Bird..
it will match my blue stripes so well too.
did it take you 2+ hours for each side or 2hours total?!? also did you sand and primer them first or just use the blue?
