Paint Protection or not?

If all goes as planned I'll be taking delivery of my Bullitt next week. I'm thinking about getting the "paint protection" that the dealer offers. Sounds good, but I'm not 100% sure exactly what this stuff is - I need opinions on whether or not to do this. What do you think?

Don't do it, dealer scam. From what I have read it is nothing more than a coat of wax. Get a bottle of Meguiars and do it yourself.

Don't waste your money.

It is usually a silicone based wax. You can do it yourself for a lot less.

Dont do that, it is a scam. If needed, in two years you can get your clearcoat professionally buffed and detailed at a body shop for like 200. Then your car looks like new again.

It's just like the furniture stores wanting to sell you the furniture protection plan for $50 or more dollars........All they do is spray scotchguard on the fabric and a leather conditioner on leather.......total scam. This paint protection is no different.

Take the money they were going to charge you for the "paint protection" and put it towards the real thing... the clear vinyl paint protection. You'll be glad you did.

Watch out though, make sure it doesn't appear on your final invoice. I clearly checked the box for "No" next to paint protection, and they charged me $500 for it anyways!

There are plenty of products that are excellent, less expensive, and you can apply yourself. I know your dealership and salesperson!! Tell him "no paint protection", " no dealer labels" (think he already probably mentioned that), "no run it through the car wash", "don't take the dealer prep materials off without you there", "NO FRONT LICENSE PLATE BRACKET!!!!".

GRRR! My wife talked me into the paint protection/ interior protection deal. However we were in such a hurray when we were picking it up, they didn't do it yet. I have to drop it off tomorrow to get it done, but we've already done all the financial paperwork. Any chance of getting it taken off or am I locked into it at this point because I've already paid for it?

No, tell them you changed your mind! The paint protection is such a rip off it should be criminal! you can purchase the same protectant the dealers use for about $25.00 to 50.00 bucks at at any auto paint supplier and I bet you paid a little more than that!

Don't get the dealer to do it. You can do it yourself, get Meguiar's paint sealant it goes on like wax and comes off the same. At least if you do it yourself you know that you will take care putting it on, compared to the Hyundai dealership that did my Tucson. They oversprayed it and had the sealant on all the black mouldings giving the black parts a white tinge. It came off the black parts using Armoral but what a waste of my time and my money.

Probably the best investment you can make for your paint at least on the front of the car is a clear bra by 3M, but don't get the dealer to do this either.

The paint protection they sell like simonize, polyshield, etc, is just really good wax, they claim it doesn't need to be reapplied, but it does. Just make sure you do wax your car if you want to keep it looking good.

Thanks for the welcome.

Nothing special about reading your mind we are all the same. We are passionate about our rides and feel it is necesary to do everything possible to make them look good and protect them. Car dealers just want every cent they can squeeze out of you.

They even tried to scam me into paying an insurance premium of $500 for $5000 worth of preotection if my car was stolen just because my windows were engraved. I asked the guy why did he think I had car insurance? He told me I had to pay it because the windows were already done I said keep the car then Hmm interesting the $500 disapeared off the invoice.
