owners w/ man. trans...shifting question
This is my first manual. Got her January of this year and it's been a blast since. Heavy traffic sucks, but it's a blast in every other aspect. Knowing you are driving the car is a great. It's more then WOT. It's downshifting, controlling the strength when shifting, choosing when to shift... Ah.... I feel like driving the stang right now
I personally love driving a stick, even in bumper to bumper traffic. I feel more involved in driving because I have to remember to shift, clutch, be in the right gear, etc. It keeps me alert.
In an automatic, people "zone out" and don't pay attention; I've seen many accidents happen that way in the lanes next to me in the 10 years I spent commuting in on 880 and 101 in the SF Bay Area. Oregon's not as bad, but with all the people moving up here, it's getting closer everyday....

It also helps when people ask to drive your car... It's amazing how many people have NO idea what a clutch is.
My car is a manual, and I smile every time I get in, start it up, pull out of the driveway and row through the gears!! I've driven 5-speeds at work to get gas in and such, but never owned one, and I wouldn't trade the fun for anything!!!
Direct shift gearbox = even better!
You get a dual-clutch system and it applies the clutch for you. You can drive it as a fully automatic, or use paddle shifters. This is NOT the same as an electronically controlled automatic w/ manumatic shifting (ala most new cars sold today, like the G6 or Corvette).

The first Mustang was an automatic, but all the rest have been manuals. I've been shifting for myself for 22 years, and have never regretted it. For me, it is simply another very enjoyable facet of driving.
I get a pretty good mix of city, highway and country road (
) driving.
