First of all I work in the I.T. profession and you know how vunerable that is. Our group was told that we would be replaced with contract programers within 60 days. :notnice:
I decided to put my new stang up for sale and it sold the first day. Put it in the paper for $25900 and took $25000 to an out of state buyer. Paid MSRP $26,800 and had 2700 miles.
Was this enough money? It sold so fast.

That had to hurt.....I feel for you. I had to look to be sure it was not April Fools day. You had already started modding it.

$1800 loss...under your circumstances, I think you did alright. Could have been alot worse, depretiation from driving it off the lot is more than that.

You went backwards way too fast. MSRP is just that, but what about the tax and liscense fees you paid ? I would have asked more. Oh, well. Live and learn. The "horse" is literally out of the barn !

I'm in IT too and feel for you. What if you get another assignment quick though? Not sure I'd have dumped it that fast.

That stinks dude. I'm in IT as well and they're starting to outsource us as well. I'm in the process now of getting out of IT and moving to a new job in my company before the poop really hits the fan. To put the icing on the cake, it's a big promotion as well! Good luck to you and I hope things work out.

Better to have owned and driven, then never to have owned at all.

By vulnerable, I believe you are inferring that because you have an active left brain (logical, sequential, rational, analytical, objective), you recognize the need to seek perspective from someone who is more of a wheeler-dealer?

Intuitively, synthesizing life holistically, I'd say if it's good 4 U, and 4 other(s), it's all good! You should resist thinking in a structured way. Do not figure out how much you paid per mile to own this thrilling ride, or you'll rent next time. It was hopefully an enriching experience, so go on from here. Have confidence in your abilities, patience to persevere, and the faith that you'll wind up better off. Maybe a 2007 is in your future!

I'd say you made out pretty well.

I'm in the IT world as well. lucky for me though I am in a customer facing role, therefore being able to speak fluid English is mandatory.

Your "l" should be capitalized and however should have a comma behind it.

Hmmm. Lots of other IT folks out there, huh? Interesting. I'm not strictly in IT anymore. I've been in Security for a long time and have migrated from reporting into IT to reporting in Corporate. I highly recommend the progression for anyone looking for longer term stability.

bassinbc, sounds like you're a coder. Strictly speaking, not the best current IT career path if you want to stay employed full-time and not end up consulting. Since you're going to be changing jobs anyway, you might want to start thinking about IT roles that get closer to the business - project management, program management, product management, relationship management, etc. Just my two cents. Hope I haven't offended your or anyone else's goals.

In terms of the deal, you must have been comfortable enough at the time to take, so go with your gut and accept it. You got back 93% of what you put into it (probably not too bad considering depreciation), and now you can start focusing your time and resources on finding another position.

Good Luck,

Ken

I'm very soory to hear all of this, but there is a chance that you get a new job and a new Mustang before some of us have their orders come in.

Don't forget to send Brad your resume

I think you did okay. Sorry to hear about that mess though, Outsourcing ticks me off.

I figure people will always need telephone systems and money accounted for.If not, I will just move to Jamaica and open my beach bar(cocktails and dreams just like the movie )

Sorry you had to sell a dream car

Also, sorry to hear that your another victum of buisness greed also called outsourcing.
I also work in the IT industry and the idea of savinga few pennys at the cost of american jobs sent to India or someplace else flat out stinks.

Look at this as an opportunity to start a new career in a field that can't be sent to someone overseas.
