Outrageous markups!
#1
Saw and sat in my first 05 today, in the flesh, awesome experience, even though it was just a auto V6.
BTW, for all of you who say the interior is cheap, I could not disagree more, having now been in one for myself, one that did not even have the IUP or leather.
Now, on to the real story - this dealer, Folsom Lake Ford, which is just outside Sacramento, California, had a dealer markup of $2,995, bringing the total price for this plain V6 to $23,550! I about had a heart attack on the spot.
The salesman who did talk with me (others curiously ignored me, even though I was gawking at the car for 10 minutes) said that this dealership met with the other Northern California dealers, and agreed on a price point (is this legal?) that they will not go under - he then said he would not take a penny less than the advertised price, with a big smile on his face.
Last but not least, he said that their dealership was offering them for lower than anyone in northern Cal, as another dealer had a 9K markup!
Given this was just a V6, I am left wondering what their markup will be on the GT. Holy smokes! I don't know what they would charge to order one, but I'm afraid to ask, and I'm taking my business elsewhere (found one up the road, who said he apparently didn't get the memo about this so-called price fixing meeting, that will do an order for 500 over invoice - sounds good to me!)
Anywho, I hate these type of dealers - I think this will hurt them in the long run.

I am not an attorney but had been in business for 28 years and my understanding of business law is that practice is illegal. Price fixing and the state attorney general should be notified. No cost to you to pursue it with them. :nono:

I saw an ad in the LA Times from Cerritos Ford in Cerritos, CA saying they had the 2005 Mustang in stock and ready for delivery, so I decided to call and see what they had and if they would accept X-Plan.
They told me they had one Mustang in stock and they were asking $34000 for the car ($5000 markup)...and NO X-PLAN on stock vehicles or factory orders.
Later in the day I called another dealer who told me that had called other dealers posing as a customer looking for the 05 Mustang to see what they offered and he was told that everyone was marking up the cost of the Mustang anywhere from $2500 to almost $10000.
And like the first dealer I talked to, NO X-PLAN available.

Some of the dealers are marking them up here mostly because they have one and it deters someone buying the ONE display model unless its really worth it to the dealer. We're down to one gt that isnt sold(and isnt here yet) already, so most likely it will be a couple weeks at least before any customers can even get to sit in or test drive one, so it will be back to showing pictures to sell them again. FORD, SEND MORE CARS NOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW!!!!
They should just shut down the Freestar plant and retool it for Mustangs

All insane.
So far, not that we have cars......Every price I have gotten is perfectly in line. The one I WAS going to order before the IUP debacle-$21,515 said 90% of the dealers with a lowball order of $20,030.

Let me clarify George's statement. If you go to a lawyer with proof of this. you get a free FORD GT.
Several dealers in NYC were sued by the NY state attorney general's office for something like this. I think it was involving Mercedes dealers, if I'm not mistaken.

Just wait for a month and the prices will start falling. I talked to a dealer the other day and was told that when the new T-bird came out 5 years ago that they were selling for 10K over sticker. Today you can buy one for 10K under.
As good as this car is let some other dummy pay to much for it. Keep your money and spend it in the aftermarket.

The dealership I go to has 2. One of them is not for sale (at least right now anyway). Infact there is no price on the sticker of the car.
But I have seen some pretty wicked mark-ups. Just take a look at ebay. One of those auctions were up to $7000! That's just for the right to buy gt now at msrp (plus the ebay auction of course). But if your someone like Jay Leno, I guess it doesn't matter that much. I bet most of those right to buy auctions on ebay fall through.
