Ouch, Hit Curb with 18" Polish Bullit :(

Ok, So me and my wife were going out to dinner on Sunday. It was a beautiful day and the stang was freshly washed. So we decided to take a nice Sunday drive and go eat dinner somewhere on the water (Lake St. Clair in MI) Anyways, Along our nice drive just a couple blocks from our destination I lightly scaped the curb during a right turn Darn, I was pretty upset but It allready happened, so what can you do? I was actually expecting worse when I first looked at it.
My wife seemed more upset then me, I think she is getting mustang in her blood

What do you guys think I should do? Is it worth the $300+ for a new rim? Should I clean it up as good as I can with a dremmel and seal the damaged area with clear? Or just leave it and call my car a beater like that other guy "Blitz" (in the other thread) did because he scratched his fender? LOL

I just moved into a rental house, and the driveway is long and strait. But if your backing out, it slightly curves. So the first time I backed out, I forgot about it, and slipped off the curb, doing just about the same amount of damage to my front drivers side rim. I was kinda upset. But blew if off, and forgot about it until this thread. I notice and worry about the paint chips on my hood, and quarter panels more.

Save your money

Save your Money. You can hardly see it before you cleaned it up. For 300 Bucks, just clean it up and don't worry about it, you (and your wife) are the only ones who will know about it.

Besides, how would you feel if you spent $300+ on a replacement wheel and nicked that one too...

Well, as far as 20's go.. That would be great, But out of my price range at the moment.. and the next moment. Don't think I didn't think about it after it happened.

Up untill now I was gona replace it, but after your responses I might just deal with it. It is pretty small and I will most likely do again, since I never learn from my mistakes. I hope I can clean it up a little.

What if I have Carroll Shelby sign it and tell everyone he did it at the track? Then it would give it character and be worth a ton of money. Think he would stop by and sign it?

Hey bud, don't know where your located at, but one of my customer's who just got an '09 GT/CS added black bullitts to his car, and his OEM Polished Bullitts are sitting in a back office at work. No tires, only wheels, but they have only 3 miles on them (what was on the car when it was delivered from Flat Rock). These truely are brand new. I think he was selling them for $600 for the set of 4! Again, don't know where your located at, but for the price of 2 from Ford, you can get a full set. Just a thought.

It sucks. Had some similar scratches like you have. Changed the whole fracking rim. Don't like scratches though.

Wow, That chrome looks nice! How do guys think the pony spinners would look on the polished alum. bullits? Since the spinners are chrome and the wheels are aluminum.

Also, I did think about possibly getting them restored, but it is probably expensive and like StangRalle said may as well just buy a new rim.

Or you can get some 275's all around so that you have enough sidewall to keep it from happening again...just a thought!

Looks like what happened to mine when it met a brick dropped from a construction truck. I was pissed but happy that is all that happened to the car. I admit I went online and looked at replacing it, but then I decided to leave it. It is not that bad, most people don't notice it unless I point it out to them. But, I KNOW it is there...... right now I am gonna have to live with it.

I've got a couple of unblemished rims in my garage. I'll sell you both of them cheaper than you can buy one new. Just PM me.

Do what I did...I bought an extra wheel the second week after purchasing the car (did get a great price for a Newtakeoff...$99.00...wheel only had about 6 miles on it). I knew that sometime, somewhere I would "curb" a wheel and this way I would have a spare. Anyway, should I curb one of my wheels (which, again, I know will happen)...I will put on the spare wheel and send the damaged wheel to Wheels America (google it). For about $125.00 the will refinish your wheel and have it back to you in about a week, if they have one hand like yours they will simply send you that one and keep the one you gave them. I have dealt with them many times. Then the repaired wheel becomes your "spare." When you sell your car, just sell the extra wheel along with it.

P.S. If you had a "painted" wheel there are places that will come over and repair the wheel for you (check with local dealerships)...however, in your case, when you're dealing with a polished/chrome wheel it's very hard to fix it. Check online for your wheel...there many places that stock them cheaper than the dealer.

Could be worse.. this just happened to me 3 weeks ago due to a broken curb (1 cobblestone was sticking out so even though I was 2" from most of the curb, I caught that one stone). I replaced the tire, but for now will live with the scratched wheel.
