Ordered a GT…How long?

I ordered a GT on 4/6 and the SM told me he would put the order in on Thursday 4/12. He puts the orders in once a week on Thursday. I asked for a low priority number. I remember hearing about that when ordering a car. He told me he would put it in at 18. Then he started telling me about his allocation and the number 30 came out and said 18 is good. He also told me to check back the first week of May for a VIN. My question is, “Is it normal to wait a month for a VIN?” and when should I start to worry that there will be snow on the ground before I get it?

Thanks,
Wayne

Since the 08's can be ordered as of yesterday and you are in no hurry I would see if he could cancel the order and get an 08. No reason buying a new car that is a year old

Mine took 5 weeks from order to delivery. My dealer had plenty of allocation.

That sounds good but I'm assuming they won't start building 08's until September. A new Mustang GT in the winter in the Northeast is no fun, plus, I got a great deal and as long as it gets here before July 2nd, I get an extra grand off.

The 08's will be out way before September, although that is when most new model years start getting delivered to the dealers. Except for the Mustang. I ordered my 05 on 29 January of 05 and got it in May. If you want to still get the 07 because of an extra $1000 off and you are comfortable with the deal you got, then stick with it. I doubt that it will take more than 8-12 weeks to get the car.

My most recent order was ordered on 3/23. It had a VIN by 4/4 with a build date some day this week. You should have a VIN in the next week or so I would imagine.

FYI - Job 1 for the 08's is in June, so you won't see any 08's on dealer lots until late June or July.

I ordered my '07 GT convertible on April 1, 2006 (two weeks after the order bank opened). It was built the second week of '07 production and it was in my driveway on June 27, 2006. Assuming that Job 1 is about the same time as last year, you could have an '08 only a few weeks after your current '07 order arrives. Of course, you won't get the $1000.

I waited exactly 8 weeks, here in NJ, for the car to be delivered.

I’m in NJ. I thought about waiting and getting a 08 but the only option I would add are the HID headlights. Hopefully I can add them to the 07 if the price is right. Saleen has them but $900 is steep.

I’m a little worried since my first car, an 89 Probe GT, was ordered by me in 88 before the dealers had any. The car came in and I was told that because the Ford financing was not approved I couldn’t get it. They didn’t even give me an option of getting my own. They said if I want to get my own financing I’d have to re-order again. Me being naïve and very young I accepted what they told me. Well, I was telling people I worked with the story and as it turns out, the owner of the company where I worked was friends with the owner of the dealership. He made a call and I had the car that day, with Ford financing. From that day on I have never trusted dealerships. Until I can see the car I worry.

It really comes down to whether or not your dealer has allocation. I ordered 3 months ago and am still waiting for a VIN. My dealer now tells me he will get the build scheduled within a 'week, week and a half'. I would have bolted long ago but ... long story. So if your dealer is telling you the truth about having allocation you should be fine.

I was also thinking about switching to an 08 but from what I've heard there are no new options or changes I want. I think MSRPs tend to rise 2-3% points a year too. So I'm guessing an 07 w/$1k rebate will end up $1500-$2000 less than an 08. If you're planning to keep it a long time, as I am, I don't think the model year is that big of a deal.

I waited 6 months + 1 day.

At the time, it was really hard to find allocation for 05s. My order sat in the bank and had to be cancelled when they rolled over to 06, so I had to re-place the order for an 06. Worked out that way, at least I got spoiler delete (not available on 05s in Canada).

Good luck.

Update on mine...it was ordered on 3/23 and built on 4/16. So basically 3 weeks from order to build. The first car I ordered was delivered to the dealer one week after production. I'm in PA, so your's should be very similar delivery-wise. Regarding build dates, a lot has to do with what options you selected and the supply chain of those components. I know when I ordered the first car they were having issues getting 18" Bullitts for example.

I ordered a 5-spped with 18” polished wheels and the kicker… Bluetooth. It requires a special ship through code. That means it will be sitting around collecting dust until someone at Ford feels like installing it. Why o why did I order Bluetooth. Well maybe it’ll take so long and maybe just maybe, I can cancel and an 08 Bullitt.

Actually the bluetooth is no big deal. It goes through the VPC (Vehicle Personalization Center) which is directly across the street from the plant. It basically added three days to the first car from the factory gate release to loading on the train.
