Thumbs down

Okay, so we've all established that the Priority Codes on the order sheet mean the order in which your car will be put in from the dealership, and they go from 10 to 99, right?
Well, my Priority number is 10, which means my car should be the first in line at my dealership, correct? If this is true (and I'm praying it is), I think my dealership has been telling me little white lies, because they've said there are a couple orders ahead of mine. Perhaps they don't want me to know that I am the only one who has preordered a 2005 Mustang at their dealership (bad negotiating position for pricing)?
Anyway, let me know if there is some strange way that you can be Priority 10 and have someone else ahead of ya.
Thanks, guys!

PS This site has been infinitely helpful in choosing my first new car. You guys rock!! B)

They probably gave all of their preorders a priority 10. I am in the same situation, priority 10 and still no vin # or build date. Just be patient, eventually they will all be built.

patience is easily said but not so easily accomplished. In my situation, I had a lease that I had to return August 1st, so I am stuck driving a car that is not very reliable until my mustang is built. But hey...today is Job 1!!!!

(scratches head) But why would they give EVERYONE a Priority 10?? Wouldn't that confuse the heck out of the Ford plant, as they go by those numbers to put the cars in order for production!? If they had 11 Priority 10s ,what would they go by to put the cars in order?

I believe it has less to do with "I was here first" and more to do with the type of build that the car is, be it customer-ordered or dealer-ordered (which typically get priority 99 I think). I could be wrong on this, and I get the impression that different dealers approach this differently.

Ah, I see. So in other words, if you have two orders, and one is a bare-bones GT, and the other is a Premium GT with all the trimmings, both would get a Prioirty 10 because they are different builds?

If I'm right, both get Priority 10 because both are being built as customer orders.

I got on the "list" in may and was told I was the second order and that they were receiving 3 cars in their first shipment. The dealer placed the actual order on June 28th. Now I'm looking at my vehicle order confirmation sheet and it says "Priority: 21"... Also it says Order Type: 1 and Price Level: 500 if that means anything. Is that priority level a bad thing?

Not necessarily...again, take this with a grain of salt, but if Ford is truly concerned with getting a Mustang on every lot (or in every pot, whichever you prefer) they're going to go by dealership in addition to by priority code (sort first by dealer, then by code).

:Awaiting an answer from someone who has a clue:

I think that's how it works.

I placed my order on 7/1. Priority 10, order type X. I received my DORA in the mail the next week, but still no word on a vin # or build date. I have a feeling I will hear something when they start this next allotment sometime in the next few weeks.

The priority codes can be all the same, but that runs the risk of the most recent order being pulled before the oldest. There will be no rhyme or reason to the order they get pulled. The only time this isn't a problem is when there are different body codes involved (GT, V6, coupe, vert). We try to progressively raise our priority codes so they get pulled in the proper order. The number isn't as important as its relationship to the other orders a dealer has placed. If your number is 25, but there is no lower priority codes in that dealers order bank, you get scheduled first (when that dealer has avaiable allocation).

Having a 10 may mean that you are the lowest UNSCHEDULED order. If the ones ahead of you have already been scheduled, then there priority is now meaningless.

Hope this helped more than it confused

Paul
