Ok..so I won't get bashed too much..let me start by saying I've owned 5 mustangs (my last 2 are Cobras). And I will be buying a new Cobra when it comes out (by the way, whoever did the photoshop of what the new Cobra should look like--if Ford isn't paying attention, or paying you..THEY SHOULD. That is exactly what it should look like!!!)
But I have a few questions or concerns that I'd like peoples' opinions on. We all know that everyone likes their 'stang to look a little different from others. I was wondering why ford isn't going to take this opportunity for the new car to allow that, even more so, from the factory. You have $17000 Mazda 3's, $25000 Altimas, to the BMW's with tons of different options, ranging from the navigation systems, heated seats to sunroofs and different wheel combos. I agree that your getting the 'stang, or Cobra, for the performance, engine, sound, and so on. But as the prices keep going up, you would expect to get a lot more for what you are paying. My '01 Cobra is great (but obviously dated)...and the new ones look like Ford has done their homework, and then some. I remember in one of the SVTOA magazines, where SVT stated that there was going to be a big change in being able to customize your car with aftermarket parts/accessories before picking it up! When is that going to happen. Even though I would never consider buying some of those POS Camaro SS's...you could get different rears, exhaust, and shifters from the factory. I know we dont need 'em, but if you have ever driven an M5, I'm sure a lot of people would pay a bit extra for a few of the creature comforts. We all love to customize our cars, and I can ever resist the credit card calling me when I want to do something to my Cobra.

Please no bashing!!!! Just tell me what you guys think!!

I'd be all for some of these options to be ordered with the car. I'll admit I like to browse car web-sites and "build" the car. it's fun to see the aftermaerket options you can add to some of them.

Give, the options may not be the same as on a Honda, BMW, or Mazda, but differing exhaust, etc. to make it just a little more yours would be fun. Heck, we do it now, why not get it from the factory (or at least the dealership) like you want it!

I agree, I built a Mustang online, and when I finished, I thought, "thats it?"
Even options that aren't exactly luxury items would be appreciated (Le Mans stripes, Sunroof, Nav, SMG Tranny, etc.) and would allow a person to build a car that would meet their needs and not need to compromise...

I think its TONS of car for under 28k loaded. The 05 will most likely be the same price it is now, considering the additional componetry(all aluminum 3v V8, 31 spline axles, etc)its THOUSANDS cheaper then whats on lots now.

as for BMW's???? friggin 26k for the base model 3, to 57,000 for the loaded M3 vert. rediculous. Does it even match GT's horsepower?

When Ford realizes how much money young adults and other creative people WOULD put into their car given the option they would.

I eventually want might car to be unique from every car on the street, to me it's the little things that count. I'd love to have direct...aftermarket add-on at the dealership. Example: how many Mustangs could they sell with racing stripes after the show car hit the auto shows.

Suggestion........no Altima/Altezza lights.

Now dont' get me wrong.....I laugh at the $54000 price tag of an M3 with cloth seats standard. And yes, your definately getting a lot for the cost of the GT. ButI, and tons of others would be willing to spend even more on our stangs right out the box for a little option here or there. And when we go into the price range of the new Cobra.....I would definately expect some extra.
Well I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about these things. My last two Cobras didnt last 2 full days without getting at least the exhaust changed. Does Ford not realize that our credit cards are made of very durable plastic???? I can't wait to get one of the new cars.....already working overtime to save up!! And one last thing....does anyone know if the sunroof (factory) is a viable option...or even considered???

the point is (and we have had this debate for several times now) why we won't be able to get

- NAV
- Heated / Climated Seats
- Automatic Air Conditioner
- Park Distance Control
- Sunroof
- Remote Control for the radio on the steering wheel
- Bluetooth option for the radio

as factory options. You can add some of them easily via aftermarket, for example the bluetooth option (let me explain this: there's a Bluetooth profile that allows a car to take control of the mobile phone's SIM card. So you just leave the mobile phone in your trouser pocket, but if someone calls you while you're in the car, you talk to the person through the built-in handsfree set. as the 05 radio obviously has an aux/phone connector, we will be able to add this, though w/o the steering wheel button to accept a call). An add-on NAV option sucks, because unlike a factory NAV system, it doesn't work if you have no satellite link (i.e. in tunnels or something). Automatic Air Conditioner is not even possible, I guess. Heated seats neither (side airbags).

Competition with M3s etc is not only about 0-60 time and quarter miles, handling and exhaust sound. But also about comfort and features. Nobody has to buy a NAV system, heated seats or a sunroof. But making all the above stuff optional won't increase the base car price at all. I just don't get it. The guys at Ford must be crazy. I bet a lot of people will buy the new Mustang because it's a Mustang. Even if they have the money to buy a GTO or an M3 or a Corvette. And if Ford offered these options, they'd earn a lot more money...

I'm not saying its not tons of car already. heck, I think the Mach 1 was a steal. I'm talking after-market type options. Go configure a MINI, or a Honda, or a Mazda, they have tons of little options people already add to their Mustangs anyway. From exhaust, to (yuck) mud flaps, to graphics, to you name it. They're things people add anyway to personailize their car.

It'd most likely havw to be dealer installed type things, but it'd be another revenue source for Ford (manufacture of items) and the dealer (selling them). it's something Foriegn makes (both German/British/etc. and Asian) makes have already discovered.

Heck, maybe someone could add that blessed King Cobra decal to their hood for an Extra $200!

Actually, making those optional probably would increase base price. It costs money to engineer, store, assemble and warrant those extras. Just managing the special orders would increase cost. Rather than making so many red verts with 5 spds on a certain day, they have to make them also with and without options. That would add to the overall cost of manufacturing and therefore base price. That is why most japanese cars sell only with packages and not individual options.

I know, for the price it would just be better to buy an M3 vert, 300 for bolt ons is alot

I remember when I bought my 97 GT the dealer actually gave me an option as to what brand of tires I wanted mounted on the rims. They don't even do that now. They told me they believe the 05 GT will come with Goodyear tires again. All I can say to those tires is good-bye. Never liked them, never will.

As for stripe packages, the only downfall is you would order your car with stripes thinking it would be your "own" personal touch to end up going to the dealer to find it sitting to one identicle to yours. I prefer to create my own stripe package so I know it is one of a kind. I still wouldn't mind seeing a Boss stripe kit on the new body style.

The 05 GTs that were preproduction DID have Goodyears on them.
Toronto autoshow and some others.

The 17s SHOULD be 17 inch Perelli's.
The 16s and 18s(when they come out) will be BFGoodrichs

Good question... which ones are better? Pirelli or BF Goodrich? Or, are they pretty similar?
