I'm now in the market for an 05 Mustang GT after 10 years of being without one.

I'm wondering if I should place an order, or buy off the lot. GT's seem to be trickling in to the Denver area now, there's 4 or 5 within driving distance now. None are in the color I want (Black).

After reading the other threads about people ordering in November and still not having a car I'm concerned about ordering one and having to wait forever.

I'm willing to pay MSRP if that's what it takes, but not over it. I was thinking I'd have more leverage on price if I was buying one off the lot, but with the demand I could be wrong.

Opinions?

Actually, ordered cars are the lowest priced, because the dealer doesn't have financing/floorplan costs decreasing profit, which is why most dealers I talked with ( 25+ ) are willing to sell ordered cars for invoice or X-Plan; but, not in stock cars.
However, by internet shopping, within a 150 mile radius, I was able to find my GT at X-Plan ( $30 over invoice ), in stock.
The dealership had been having a slow month ( snow ) and I was ready to buy/FMCC finance that day, with no trade-in. Also, I wasn't overly picky about color or options. I mainly wanted a GT "now"; but, I wasn't willing to pay over invoice.

Lee, thanks for the good info. Maybe I'll see about putting in an order.
Pardon my ignorance, but what is "X" plan, "A" plan, "Z" plan, etc... I had assumed it was some sort of discount/benefit for people who worked for Ford.

if you order you'll be waiting a looong time.

its all about if you wanna save and wait or get it now and pay a bit of a premium.

I woulda payed the premium...if it wasnt 5K...

I live in Denver too. I ordered from Lakewood Ford (on W Colfax) I spoke directly with the fleet sale manager,Dave Gulbransen. He has always been straight up with me. We expected the car to come in by the middle of April, well it's actually due in this Wednesday. If you are law enforcement or Military he will work with you on price.

Also along with mine they are getting a couple other GT's in also. Go to their website and see which GT's have vin #, those should be in very soon.

wardog,
X-Plan is a discount program for companies that do business with Ford.
See Ford X-Plan
PIN numbers are readily available, on the internet, from Ford employees who are encouraged to give them out, to the general public, to boost sales.
A Plan is an even better discount program; but, it is for Ford employees and immediate family only. Z Plan is the counterpart for Ford retirees.
BTW, today and tomorrow are great days to buy vehicles, as dealers are trying to meet monthly quotas and goals.
Hope this helps.

Hey walc, or anyone else for that matter... I posted a while back that here in north/central Jersey a few dealers have flaked on me but if I had an XPlan pin I would go and order one tomorrow... I have been working weekends(darn IT and having to work while noone else is) so I will have a nice bonus coming to help with a down payment but the X Plan would help so if you could PM me with info or refer me to a site I would GREATLY appreciate it.

sorry about the spelling I am at work waiting for our email server to finish mirroring the new RAID settup so there is no spell check on this computer.

off the lot does not necessarily equal more money. If you call around and email numerous dealers, I would be willing to bet you'll find one that gives you a good price. And if you're lucky they will have exactly what youre looking for or will have it in the near future.

good luck

If you can find one on the lot that is exactly what you want, I recommend you get that one. Not ordering may save you tons of headaches and months of waiting. At this point I really wish I could've bought off the lot instead of ordering. That way I'd of had my car 4 months ago instead of still waiting for it to be built.
