from wht im hearing from forrd if u use an after market filter you can and will eventually have severe engine damage. and they wont cover the damages. my stang is in the shop no and thats the only explenation i can get from them. i used an stp oil filter once one 1 time and now im looking at a 6thousand dollar engine replacement... use the motorcraft filter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Assuming you don't put a pure crap filter on, that's reaching a bit.

Motorcraft is good, so are Wix & Purolator. Just stay away from Fram filters!

I usually use either a Mobil 1 or Motorcraft filter, but I did pickup 12 Advance Auto Total Grip Filter for $.95 each. They are made by Purolator but they only have a nitrile anti-drainback valve, not a silcone one like Ford reccomends. I guess I will stick to the Motorcraft and keep the AAP for my Explorer.

I've used K&N oil filters in my Bullitt in the past, but just use the Motorcraft oil filters on both Mustangs now. They are inexpensive and readily available at Walmart, and I can buy them on the way home from work at 4am when all other autoparts stores are closed. I use M1 synthetic in the Bullitt, but I'm using Motorcraft semi-syn oil in the '08 GT during the warranty period since the factory calls for more frequent oil changes, and I'd just be throwing good M1 away if I changed it every 6 or 12 months, as I only put a few thousand miles a year on the Mustangs.
