Oil change question?
Oil change question?
Hey guys, about to do my first oil change on my GT and was wondering if any one had some good suggestions on what oil I should be using. My cars got 63000 on her.
Thanks
Thanks
I go Royal Purple all the way. I use their 5W-20 and oil filter every 5,000 miles. Don't for get to fill up your oil filter with oil before you put it back on!!! Manual says to use 6 qrts, so just put some oil in to fill the filter and put the rest in the engine!
what is wrong with motorcraft ? I use it, the oil analysis results are very good and stand up to pretty much everything out there. You can check it out at bobistheoilguy if you want all the oil info you could ever need. The price is right on the oil. motorcraft filters are great also.
wheelman 7500 is the drain time for almost all ford/lincoln products. 5000 was the previous. most all semi and full synthetic oils are pretty stout today and can go longer but sending your oil out for test would be wise for long drain intervals.
Jps78 I would use motorcraft semi or full synthetic and a motorcraft filter. I sue it in all my vehicles w/o a problem. I also use all motorcraft products in my drivetrains.
also my tip: when you take the filter off always double check the gasket isn't stuck to the block and is still on the old filter. a double gasket will equal oil all over the place. I also put some oil on my finger and run it around the gasket on the new filter and add some oil to the new filter so it isn't dry.

So far I haven't heard one thing about oil brands or weights causing an engine to fail or lasting any longer. Pick an oil and stay with it and keep it fresh. Synthetic/ conventional, who cares? Change it when recommended if not before and there really isn't enough difference to matter.
