OIL CHANGE INTERVALS /MOBILE 1
#2
I've used Mobil 1 in everything for years. I change it at 3000 & just figure it is cheap insurance! If I were going to run it 5000 I'd still change the filter at 3000. I always cut my filters apart & check for particles. If a filter would ever fill up (plug up) they have a spring by-pass & you would be circulating unfiltered oil.

I've only changed it once and that was from the oil and filter from the factory to Mobil 1 and a K&N filter @ 3,025 miles. I plan to do it every 3,000 miles, even though I know synthetic is designed to and does last longer, I don't mind spending the extra money to do it as I always have

I used Mobil 1 oil and filter for my first oil change at 1100 miles. I plan to do it again at 3k and then every 3k after. I hear you can run it to 5k miles but I don't mind every 3k for peace of mind.

Synthetics are good for 5000 on abused street cars. Even longer if you arent hard on it.

When you remove the oil filter, only the oil in the fitler and a lil more in the housing come out. You just put on a new filter, and top it off with oil. Oil is only circulated through the housing when the car is running (oil pump running)

What were the results of the analysis? No surprises, right?

I put Motorcraft synthetic blend on the first change two weeks ago (2900) but the next change will be Mobil 1 and every 3000 to 5000 after that. Sometimes it depends on when I can get to it, the dealer or anyone else won't be changing mine! I feel completely safe letting it go till 5000. That is based on the 79 Skyhawk I had way back when...I changed it every 10000. That motor looked like new when I had the valve covers off. The car went 150000 before I traded it. I don't recall my logic for letting it go that long, maybe just to see what would happen.

You Mobile 1 users ... what mileage intervals are you changing you oil? In lieu of 3000 miles, what's your opinion of 5000 miles interval?

I run Amsoil 0W30 Synthetic oil & their filter. I will do both every 10,000!

I have mobil 1 and I'm doing every 5k miles. My reasoning is the oil is more resiliant and will last longer than standard oils. Plus the recommended oil change for the GT is 5k anyway. Plus expense comes into play since its about 40 bucks and oil change(oil + filter).

But seriously, let me know via PM or whatever how you make out with Amsoil and extended drain interval. I've used their products in the past also.

That's the first time anyone said that to me!

It's just a little extra protection. Every little bit helps. I had one these magnets in my oil filter at the 3000 mile change and when I took the filter off at 6000, believe-you-me, that magnet was very fuzzy with shaving! At my next change, I'll try to remember to take a picture of the magnet to show you what it caught.

I first changed the oil in my car at 1500 miles and at 3000 mile intervals ever since, motorcraft oil and filters. At 10000 miles I switched over to Mobil One oil and filter and am really happy with the change. Historically all of my cars over the last decade or so have run on Mobil One.

I haven't change the oil on our mustang yet (only 3 days old.. 300 miles)...
But.. Our 92 explorer gets its oil changed every 8000 miles (mostly highway with occasional hard four wheeling).. If I happen to do a bunch of driving in dusty conditions (one of the trails i go to has a 30 mile drive on a dusty/dirt road..) I change the oil, oil filter and air filter when I get back.. The explorer now has 320k miles (orig motor)...
Our 95 neon gets its oil/filter changed about the same interval.. and it now has 293k miles on it..
I'm a beliver in full synthetic (mobile 1 is what we use) and good filters..
