Hi all,

I have a new (maybe 500 miles on it) 2006 GT 5 speed. I hear an odd periodic clicking noise when driving my car. The sound seems to come from somwhere under the car. It isn't an engine noise or interior sound. Seems like it might come from the transmission or rear end/fuel tank. It is a click that happens every 20 seconds or so. It happens in neutral at idle...or when in gear and driving. The speed of the clicking never increases with driving speed or engine RPM. With the AC off I still hear it. With the TCS off, I still hear it. Anyone know what this sound is? Is this a normal thing? The ticking doesn't seem to affect the car in any way...it is just an odd sound.

I have an 06 5-speed as well. I haven't analyzed my noise, but I have some sort of rythmic sound as well. I don't have the car today, but I'm going to look at it (listen to it) more closely Saturday. I'll let you know if I come up with something. Maybe I'll have the g/f listen while she runs along side

I've narrowed down my clicking sound a little bit more last night. The click only happens when I am running the heater. Odd that it sounds like it is comming from the bottom/back of the car. Anyway, it doesn't seem to do it with the AC...or with the temperature dial set to '0'. My guess is it is something to do with the heater core? Anyone know if this sound is a common thing on the 06? I'll ask the dealer about it when I go in for my free 3k oil change.

I have the same noise with my '06 GT 5 speed.

I haven't tried with or without the heater yet. I'll have to see what that does.

While still paranoid it's good to hear that I'm not the only one.

I know it clicks when the AC is on, also it will click every 20 seconds or so when you have the defogger on. That might be your issue. I believe it's normal.

Yeah...I've pretty much narrowed the sound down to the AC and the defogger. I only get the clicking when I have these features on. Good to hear that it is normal.

Same result here. If I turn off the A/C button when the heater is on it goes away.

HA!
I have an '06 and this issue has been driving me batty.
But what gets me is that it's more than just an intermittent click.
A click I can deal with.
It's more like a "Shh-KUNK."
I can feel the "KUNK" part in the pedals.
And it's pretty frikkin' annoying for being a "normal" noise.

When the heat is on, it still engages and disengages the AC compressor. I believe it helps eliminate moisture from the heat. This is the noise you are hearing. It only happens when the heat or AC is on.

This noise has been driving me nuts. Finally brought my car into the dealer. Unfortunately its normal. My goes off whether i have the a/c off or on. In stop and go rush hour traffic its the worst, as each acceleration or deceleration sets it off.
