Noise in power stearing

I have talked to few other 2005-2006 Mustang owners and they say they hear the same thing.

The noise sounds like it is coming from the power stearing unit at low speed turns, usually turning into a parking space. It sounds like the power stearing unit is straining and makes a rather noisy whinning sound. It doesn't happen all the time maybe 50% of the time.

Has anyone here had the same issue.

The fluid is fine as well as the belts. Someone said it is the pump and Ford will not replace they will only replace the fluid, which was said to only stop the noise for a couple of days.

Yes I have it too!

I recently started getting the noise. it sounds like the pump basically isnt working at low speed turns. It just started, and I only have 5000 miles on car. So I am sure it will be at the dealer as soon as I can afford to take it up there. Good luck. I dont think its the rack, but if not fixed, rack may develop problems. I really just think it is the pump, the fluid level is fine, no leaking etc. Let me know what you do and what fixes it. As you might have it fixed before me. I dont drive it too much.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ford power steering pumps. Get used to it. They all start making that noise eventually.

I wonder if synthetic power steering fluid would delay the onset of the noise....

My 06 with about 5k miles just started doing this a few weeks ago. Sounds like it's "normal" and nothing that needs service based on the replies.

I'm not sure if it's Ford's Power steering, but any car I've seen if you turn it all the way one way or the other it'll strain the pump. If your not turning it all the way, I have no idea...
