Good reasons to wait to purchase/order your car.
1) less price gouging. I hate to pay retail !
2) let ford get the bugs out of the build process.

1) if the dealer tries to gouge you, go elsewhere. i'm sure a reputable dealer can be found who will charge you exactly what the car is worth, they're still making money that way.

2) and there shouldn't be any bugs, it's not like these are the first mustangs to be assembled. they've been building them for months and months. building, driving, testing, fixing, blahblahblah. and if for some off the wall reason there is something wrong, factory warranty.

Hey Bruce hear anything about the sensor problem with the V6 that stopped the entire line for a couple days? Could be why V6 manual is on hold till Nov.
Nope, hadn't heard about that. There are bound to be some kinks to work out.

I ordered July 7 and still have no VIN or build date or even a DORA. My dealer is a small town dealer and as far as allocation I have no idea. It might be that they have no allocation??? He said he had 1 Mustang ordered prior to mine so mine was second. I saw the order sheet from FORD showing the first one and it had a VIN assigned. I call every week and every week he says nothing yet but should happen next week.
Your dealer should be able to tell you without doubt whether he has allocation to fill your order. The only allocation of Mustangs to date occurred back in May. It sounds like he is hoping the next allocation happens soon so he can give you a definite answer.

I forget when order banks opened exactly, but I ordered mine the day of or day after order banks opened. Shortly there after, I received a VIN #, but no scheduled build date. It took a few more weeks to get my scheduled date of Sept. 20th. Maybe they have plenty of orders to get started with and will schedule more once they get production rolling. Just my thoughts!

Well at least I'm not the only one "Unscheduled" . I suppose we will just need to be patient until they arrive. Thanks for all the input everyone.

My dealer was supposed to call Ford today to get me some info, but I haven't heard from him yet. He said he was expecting it around the end of September, but who knows.

What does allocation mean when it comes to the 05? Wouldn't EVERY dealer have ordered SOME stock immediately when the order bank opened?

Are stock orders arriving sooner than pre-orders? I may as well cancel my pre-order and wait for the truck to pull up so I can immediately pick a car.

This is all driving me nuts, I tell ya', nuts!

The dealers probably all ordered some for stock. They may want to hold them on the showroom floor until full allocation starts flowing, and then they'd free them up for sale. Think about it.... what would consumers think of your dealership if they walked in and there were zero '05s to look at?

That's my guess, any of the dealers here could probably add some color to that.

The allocation is the number of units available for that particular dealer to order in a particular period of production. We may use this allocation to fill sold orders or to build stock inventory. The priority assigned to the order determines the build order (assuming no commodities issues, etc).

We are giving our sold orders priority over any stock units, no need to have them sitting on the ground if they could be building pre-sold units instead. Not all dealers are doing the same thing. Ask your dealer for your priority number. The numbers will range from 10, the best, to 99, which may never get built. We assigned our priorities according to your place in line. first persoon 10, second 11, and so on. Stock orders got priority of 20 and up. If there are no sold orders to fill and we have available allocation that week, then the the next lowest priority unit gets built which would be a stock unit.

Hope this helps clarify things.

Just make sure you get your priority number when your order is placed, this will give you a much better idea of where in line you are.

I would be more concerned about what a customer that ordered one in May would think if they walked in any found ANY sitting on my lot and they didn't have theirs. We will eventually have stock inventory, but the first units have to go to the sold orders, it's only right.

I ORDERED MINE IN mAY AND ONLY HAVE A PARTIAL VIN. i GOT HIT IN A PARKING LOT BY A KID IN AN ACURA GOING 60MPH IN JUNE. mY CAR was a write off and I haven't replaced it yet because I'm waiting for my 05. I too am anxious for ford to release dates as well as prices. If I dont get a production date by job1 +7 I'm going to have to buy something else. Ah, who am I kidding, I'll just end up buying a P>O>S until my 2005 shows up. Threats are so ineffective when you know you're bluffing. Ford, please give me my car

Karpro, you know more than ANY salesperson I have spoken with (which won't surprise anyone here, I know). I don't mean that in a false way either, you really made sense of the allocation issue and definitely have made me feel better about waiting soooo looooong B)

I'm not sure that makes me very smart, but thanks. If I can shed any light, I'll try. Be patient, your salesperson and dealer want you to have the car almost as badly as you do, it's frustrating for them too.

It could be worse, I've had our GT sold for about 4 months and the best estimate I can give on a date to that guy is by NEXT summer.

Just got off the phone with the dealer. I asked him for a copy of the vehicle status report. He said it is still blank for the 4 mustangs that they ordered. He said he will call me when he gets the VIN. He thinks the Canadian cars will be shuffled in with the US one's being built, at least that is what they did in the past. He thinks I won't see the car until November. :notnice:

Karpro, Just to pick your brain, I received a vehicle order conf. Earlier this month. I'm a priority 13. Does this mean I'm getting snuffed or what? My build date is 9/20 and I do have a vin#. It shows that with them, I'm order# 0044. Given, this dealer (F24408) is very large, but is known for pushing a lot of trucks out. It's also in a very rural area, but people buy trucks there from all over the state. I'm really just curious about the priority level. In the confirmation, next to "retail" is states DLR INV. Does that necessarily mean I'm paying around invoice? "Price Level: 500." I'm just trying to decipher the V.O.C. Thanks

The priority thirteen isn't bad, either there were three ahead of you, or they left room to put someone ahead of you. The priority is of no importance once the build date is issued. It is used to determine scheduling sequence. If a dealer had two orders in and only one unit allocated to be scheduled, the lowest priority number would get picked to be scheduled. Once that is done the priority number is meaningless.

I don't have a DORA infront of me now, I'm at home, but I believe the Retail and DLR INV you see are just column headings for when there is actually prices available. Price level 500 refers to the intial price level. Each time Ford increases the prices they change the price code. Just helps us track which price sheets are current and accurate as the year progresses.

You ask if you're paying around invoice. Did you actually order a car without knowing what you were going to pay? Obviously not the dollar amount, but MSRP or X amount over or under invoice, etc.., or some type of agreement?
