According to the sales manager at a large Austin TX Ford dealer. What a moron.

I took a test drive in a '04 Mustang GT for a point of reference with the '05 that I will more than likely be purchasing next year. I liked the '04 but, told the sales guy that I would be waiting on the 2005 before I made a purchase.

When I met the sales manager I told him that I will be buying a 2005 Mustang GT. I'm not sure if he was putting his "great sales technique" on me or just a dumb-a?? but, I told him that everyone knows that Ford will be making 180,000+ Mustangs for MY 2005 and that Ford's own corporate experts are predicting close to 50% of those to have the V8. Then I went on to tell him that he didn't have a clue or that he was full of poop. He said that he had proof from Ford and could get it to me after the holiday. I offered to bet him $10,000.00 off of the sticker price vs. vs. $5000.00 cash to him if he didn't sell a '05 Mustang GT before the end of 2004. He didn't take the bet.

On the way out I told the sales guy that his dealership had lost all credibility and to call me in 2006 when they get the V8's on their lot.

On a brighter note, I did win a $100.00 WalMart/Sam's gift card for taking a test drive(odds were 5:1000 for the 100 bucks).

This site has been awesome for learning the '05 scoop. Too bad I know more than the guys who sell them for a living. I learned it all lurking here for a couple weeks!!!

That's $%&#in' awesome. Kudos to you for putting another ill-educated salesman in his place.

what's really funny is that you won the cash and made him look like an idiot at the same time.

I hate to say it, but you might have lost that bet. You said he'd SELL one in '04. A guy like that might not - even if they're on the lot!

Too bad a lot of those yay-hoos think that all they're selling is "product". There is a dealership right down the road here that is like that. Idiots.

I see two possible outcomes that would happen.

A. Salesman gets fired long before 05 stangs are out.
B. He does sell a lot of 05 GT's because as much as we hate to admit it, many people with money are out there who are worse than he is. He has to keep his job somehow right.

Don't forget it was the Sales MANAGER who was the jerk. The salesman, who is a good guy, was on his first day of sales after one week(5days) training! He even sold a truck to his first shopper of the morning.

The moral to my story is that many dealers will say anything to sell a car, even if they know that they are lying. An educated consumer is their worst nightmare.

Car dealers are used to having customers leave with their shiney new car clueless that they just got screwed (price, interest rate, trade-in, lease terms etc.) When I drive off the lot with a new car I won't be the one rubbin' my butt cheeks thinking "what just happened". When I buy it's the dealer thinking "ouch that one hurt, we need to screw a customer and fast to make up for that loss".

This dealer even had a $5000.00 ADP (additional dealer profit) sticker on a mystichrome paint Cobra Convertible!

When will salesmen get it? Lying to people will just send them to another dealer. Maybe even another brand. I have had so many bad experiences with the dealers in my area, I'm still looking for a good one. If my blood wasn't Ford Blue, I would have tried another brand long ago. I fact I got so mad last time, I bought a Jaguar Its still a Ford product (I got it on A-Plan), but they know how to treat a person. My next car WILL be a new Mustang, I'm just not sure who I'm going to buy it from.

You should really get that looked at. Blue blood is a tell-tale sign that you're not getting enough oxygen.

Yes, but in most cases, blood is red. Only in veins is it blue. In the heart, it's red, in the arteries, it's red. If either an artery or vein is cut, it's red.

Way to slay a sales manager!

I hate those lying sludges out there who will say anything to get you to drive that car you dont necessarily want home. :bang:

I had one at my local dealer try to sell me a crown vic when I came in looking at mustangs. I was 23 at the time, and asked him how many 23 year olds ride around in a crown vic without handcuffs? He got smart with me so I left and went 10 miles down the road and drove home in a used 95 gt. I would have bought the new one from that dealership if he kept his big yap shut.

LOL a crown vic? Hey, for fun you could have gotten one and add the light and get a black grille for the front...scare the crap outta tons of people.

But would it be worth it to be driving a crown vic? Probably no.

I'll settle for a Mustang Interceptor B)

But hey, Crown Vics make great road trip cars and the back seat does come in handy...
