I could see a Bullitt, using the upcoming GT-H engine and suspension upgrades, being rolled out in concert with the Bullitt movie. Highland green, of course with a very clean exterior.
Mach I with a n.a. 5.4 variant is soooo obvious it makes you wonder what's taking Ford soooo long to do. Shaker hood made sense on the carburated 428 but is an awkward paean on the F.I. Mod motor -- maybe a gussied up long-runner hi-rise intake manifold poking through a hole in the hood would make more sense and pay tribute to the original shaker scoop too.
Digging into the past for retro styling ideas is fine, to a point, but beyond that point, it starts to belie a lack of any new stylistic ideas. Honoring the past is one thing, living in and off it is another.

So for all my buddies that gave me crap about my V6-well that 1% lease ends in Feb 08 and my ultra low buyout most likely means I can sell it at a $4000 profit

Unfortunately, there is no Bullitt remake slated right now. Nothing even seriously in development. But those upgrades you reference would be fine, no doubt. However, personally, I would want to see a MINIMUM 50 horse increase above the GT to make it worth my while; preferably a 75 horse increase, actually.
As to the retro obsession, the die is cast, my friend. Ford chose to design the '05 as a retro Mustang. It only makes sense to follow that theme for a number of models, particularly since they seem to be making people drool.
Heck, resurrecting old properties is working for Hollywood. Well, not counting Charlie's Angels and Starsky and Hutch, of course.

Keep in mind that the '01 Bullitt handled extremely well for that platform but was short changed on the HP department which left a lot of the Bullitt owners with a bad taste on their mouths, including mine which is the main reason I sold the Bullitt and kept the Cobra.
The GT-H is an improvement but it is basically a band aid and its performance is easily obtainable on the GTs. To make my point, consider the following thoughts. How would we feel about the GT-CS if it had a N/A 5.4? Would there be a higher demand, waiting lists, and AMVs?
With respect to Ford's Special Editions they have to be unique, special and have out of the box Terminator performance numbers or at the very least, close to it.

Tony,
As far as the credability of this information my source was very high up in the Ford corporate Ladder. I felt his info was sincere and accurate as of date. There will be a lot water under the bridge by the time the 08's are finalized so things could change however. I personally do not like to post anything unless I believe the Info to be postworthy. Time will tell if this is fact or fiction but in the meantime it is nice to dream.

I definitely trust what you represent here. It's that old situation of one person in the management chain says one thing, and someone else says another.
May your source be accurate! Thanks for the info.

As much as I LOVE my car, and I do LOVE my '06 GT, if Ford does, (repeat, does) make a Bullitt for 2008, I will have to seriously consider trading my VB GT in for this. My dream Mustang has, and always will be a 1968 Fastback, just like the Bullitt car. It doesn't even have to be a GT, but painted DHG, and look just like the car from the movie. If Ford does come out with it, this may be as close as I can get with my dream.

Ford Takes Three-Pronged Approach to Performance
Ford plans to beef up its performance portfolio, Mark Fields, the automaker's President of the Americas , told a New York Auto Show audience on Wednesday. Central to the strategy is a renewed emphasis on the SVT line, which had been neglected in recent years. "The plan is to offer one performance car and one truck, going forward," Fields explained, with the pair likely to generate from 5,000 to 10,000 annual sales. A version of the Mustang and another SVT makeover of the F-Series pickup will be the latest offerings. Then there'll be "personalized performance," allowing customers to buy from a broad catalogue of performance parts and accessories. The third leg of Ford's performance strategy is the Ford Racing unit."

Tony, the first prong of this says
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>One tier of our strategy is personalized performance. This is the fastest growing part of the enthusiast market and it includes vehicles with upgraded power, performance and appearance.

I agree. What they said in NY the other day, was SVT would only make one performance Mustang. I wouldn't think that would have anything to with a Bullitt. It wouldn't be an SVT product. (even thought they would probably do a lot of the R&D for the car)

Thanks for the reminder. 06 Mustang Job 2 didn't have much added to make it memorable.

Doug,
I may be inclined to part with my car as well... they should have had DHG and a bullitt package available in '05

I agree here. Much as I like my 05, I'd be sorely tempted by a Bullit with dark green.
By the way, I wonder if that other car company will offer a movie anniversary Charger? You know, one with 5 flying hubcaps?
