Newbie with a Gt on order
Hi all. I've been lurking on this site for a while and have learned much. Thanks. I was planning on buying a Stang when the weather got a little nicer in a few months and decided to go by the dealer last night to test drive one. Well..... They made me an offer I coudn't refuse. Here's the details; Gt premium coupe, A/T, vista blue, OTT white stripes, Dk charcoal, IUP, Anti-theft, Side air bags. Crome tips cause I couldn't get the Gt appearance pkg with the stripes. I really agonized over the vinyl stripes, but the cost of getting them painted on is prohibitive, and I really wanted them. Went with the 17" painted cast wheels cause those were actually the ones I liked best. It went down something like this; I'm looking at the cars, the salesman comes out, we test drive, he wants to find me a car imediately, I say maybe. They can't find one so they want to order. I say fine if the price is right. I tell them straight up that I'm not in a hurry, and there's 20 other Ford dealers within 100 miles of us. He says no problem, just fill out this order sheet. He takes it away. The sales manager comes back with him and says "How does 500 over my invoice sound?" He shows me the printed order confirmation sheet with an ivoice price of 27955.46 +500=28455.46 plus tax and license. Compared to the prices on the lot, it seemed good. So I said "sign it and give me a copy." So he did. Done deal. Now the hard part. Waiting. Sorry for the long post. You'll be hearing from me again, as I'm sure I'll have questions etc.

Hey Carl, 1st off, to the forums. Second, congrats on ordering the car. From a fellow Vista Blue owner, you will LOVE the color, and especially LOVE the car!!!! 3rd, they gave you a good deal. Sounds like it was easy to do. That is what I like to hear (considering I sell Fords for a living), that the customer and dealer both got what they wanted and both were happy in the end. Again, congrats, and here are a few nanners to get you started. Please post some pics when you get it (both in general, and in the VB section).

Now the hard part begins. Mine took 3 months from order to delivery and it was borderline painful at times. I've gotten about 20 compliments on her so far and I've only been driving her 2 weeks. Patience!!!

I wasnt going to buy until my wife's uncle popped up and said hello. Turns out he's the finance manager. Soooo it took 30 seconds for the paperwork, pricing and everything to come back.. literally 30 seconds.. makes you wonder why you spend all day there for a car....
I told them I wanted the base GT, nothing fancy and in blue.
Took them two days to find a blue one and it ended up being the premium with the silverish dash trim and shaker 1000...
picked it up for 25,900
I think anything under 28,000 is a good deal since most sticker at 30-31,000

Back in early 2005, I was one of the few lucky ones, other than those who had the x-plan, who got a GT at MSRP (Premium $28,315).
I heard stories of people paying $1,000s over sticker and having to wait 4 to 6 months.
I was fortunate that my order only took a month.
When I went to my local dealer, they told me that they had a cancelled order and that I can take it over. Apparently the original buyer had been waiting for 3 months and couldn't wait any longer so they went and got one off the lot at another dear. Oh well.
The saleswoman said that the car was almost finished, and that the body need to be painted, so they said that I can change the color or stick with the original order of black.
I told them that I wanted to change it Redfire and so they did.
Then, a month later, it came in. WOO HOO!!
Congrats on your order and welcome to the herd.
Hopefully, you'll get some sleep while you're waiting.
Don't forget to post some pics.

Talk about seeing someone coming. You think $500.00 over invoice is good? I've never heard of a Mustang (GT or V6) going for that much today. Do yourself a favor - get yourself an x-plan pin. Now you're below invoice and add the $1000 rebate to that.

Hey Frank, the only issue with the rebate, is that is expires on 1/2/07. Rebates CANNOT be extended. When any factory ordered vehicle comes in, whatever is available at the time, (This goes for rebates, and/or the APR), that is what is valid. When I ordered my car the rate for 72 months was in the low 5's. when I got it, the rate went to 6.50. Nothing I can do, as prime went up, and so did the banks. When his car comes in, if the rebate is still $1,000, he gets it. If it goes down to only $500, that is what it is. Just a heads up for everyone wondering when ordering.

Thanks again for the comments and welcome, I'll definately have some pictures for ya.
Frank, I suppose if they had "seen me commin" I would have paid the almost 33,000 dollar sticker price on the car I test drove, and I wasn't about to do that. The dealership I used happens to be the one closest to my house, they've serviced my truck, and will service and supply any parts I need for my mustang. They are great people and I had a great buying experience. That's worth something to me. Also, you can call me old fashioned if you want, (I'm 47), but I shook the guys hand on it and he gave me a signed price sheet including all his costs, and to me, a deals a deal. Like Jeff said, I'm happy, he's happy. I'm having a hard time believing you've never heard of a GT premium going for that much today.

congrats on getting ur dream machine! it took me about a month to find the one i wanted (black on black Manual Premium with the same wheels you got). i didnt want to order it because it was the spring and it would take 6-8weeks.........which mean the end of the summer! no way i was driving my beater for another summer.
o and in my opinion, u got a kick *** deal. since it was so friggin IMPOSSIBLE to find my baby, i was stuck when it came to making a deal. i honestly couldnt say "there are 20 other fords around here with the same car" becasue he was the only one so i ended up paying sticker (29,800 in change).
AND when i bought her it was still on its way from detroit. as i was doing the paperwork some other guy came in and said "i was told you guys have a black on black manual gt". another salesman went over to him and said sure lets sit right down. my salesman went over there and after talking to the guy and pointing to me, the guy got up and i heard him say "SON OF A *****" and walk out so frustrated......ill never forget that.
but anyways........congrats on the new ride. cant wait to see pics and even though now u may say mods can wait, once you get that bug.......god help ur bank account ahahahahah

Why do people qoute prices without options ???
Our car was $28,600 -$500 cutomer cash. Doubt anybody can beat that on a 07 in Sept.2006
Point is this, closer to invoice the better.
So price is a moot point unless you tell what options are on the car..............
FYI
Options missing on our car:
Shaker 1000
Side air bags

You seem to be content to be giving your dealership more money than you have to. I gave you the link to get your GT at x-plan price. Someone is giving you the opportunity to save about $600 dollars here. You still rather give them the money? I don't get it. I'm a bit old fashion too and older then you if that matters, but a good deal is a good deal. I don't give a d*** about any Ford dealer. It's your money, not theirs. I'm sure others here can use the link. Regardless, good luck with your Mustang.
.
To me, making sure the car was not screwed with was worth more than money.

Screwed with? What's the big deal about control over delivery? I told them what I wanted and they listened. Maybe it's because they're not dealing with another snot nosed kid (no offense), but a middle aged man - I don't know. They left all the shipping plastic on the vehicle as I requested and delivered it to my house for me because I was unable to make it over to the dealership. I signed the paperwork on my kitchen table. And, this was at invoice price plus rebates. This thread has me completely confused. I'm still shaking my head over it. The opportunity to purchase at invoice with an x-plan pin number and some here STILL rather give the dealership more money?
