New Vert Lid
New Vert Lid
My 07 GT goes in for a new vert top on Monday.
She got slashed on the passenger side one Friday night in my driveway.
I am switching the top color from tan to black...the car is grey with tan/black interior.
Little freaked how it will turn out, but she is currently a submarine gaining water every rainy day around the taped slash
I will do some before afters when she is done
Cheers

sorry about that. too bad they don't have a body-color material for your top. that would look pretty good imo. i have had two rag tops in the past. one got slashed and the other started ripping at the seams.
as much as i love convertibles, if i ever do get one again, it will have to be a hard-top convertible. hopefully ford will make one eventually for the mustang. i won't hold my breathe though.

oh, wait a minute, they do. i radomly checked out a site. it would be nicer if you could kind of match the body color. make it more "coupe-like" looking when the top is up since it is all pretty much one color. unless you like the contrasting color.

Interesting idea sound-man, that would look cool!
The car is tungsten grey and has a blue/purple/grey hue depending on light, might be hard to get the color matched.
I chose to go black for a number of reasons:
My nine year old said to
Easier to keep clean
Hides dirt/grease stains better than tan
Better resale value as black will appeal to more buyers
I like the tan look, but I am sure black will be fine too

I try to spend as many vacation hours in Kailua on your gorgeous home island; jealous of anyone living in Hawaii
Thanks for looking

yeah, it would be pretty much impossible to get a perfect match.... still, i think the taupe/gray would look good on your car and i doubt it would hurt the resale value.
i hear you about hiding dirt with a black top.
my top that got slashed was black. i had a white car, so i thought it would be cool to get a white top. looked good, but it was a pain to keep clean. still, i think one of the grays would hide dirt well.
my problem is that i like to be unique. there are other tungsten gray verts with a black top, but i have yet to see one with a dark gray top.

i don't know what the heck i am doing with the photoshop program... and i don't know how to color match... but here is an idea of what i am talking about.

and what you want to do... just seems like another standard every day mustang. imo. no offense.

the vinyl one on the site i linked is $560 and the canvas is $750. plus install of course.
that site was just an example. it was the first one i clicked on when i googled tops.
kind of pricey, but figuring that he has to change it anyways, and that hopefully insurance catches some of it, it shouldn't be too bad. when i changed my top to to an aftermarket white one, i didn't have to come up with anything out of pocket.
even if his insurance doesn't cover any of it, i doubt the oem one is THAT much cheaper.

Oh wow the grey lid looks really good.
Thanks for taking the time to do that. I printed out the same pic and colored it in with a black felt....low tech option
I hear you about wanting to look unique, no offense taken at all. I can't imagine how hard a white top is to keep clean.
Big prob is my kids are getting too big to fit in the back seat so this may be my last summer with her, so resale value is a consideration.

As for price with install it is something over $1K Can$...not sure of final numbers as there is insurance, depreciation and deductibles involved. Let you guys know when the dust settles.
I dropped her off this morning and confirmed the black top

Another vert thread reminded me to post the costs. I have to clean up the car and get her summer tires on before I dare show a pic.
The OEM canvas roof was $1426 + $636 install. Final cost was $2062 installed. Note these are Canadian dollars
They also cleaned out my drain lines which were very plugged with pine needles and trapping water another $77 of labor....apparently you have to have the top out to get to those lines, brilliant.
My costs with insurance was about $700
I am pretty sure that the car rental guys ripped me off of an extra $40, but had no time to argue the point

The day I drove home with the new lid was through a hail storm, then weathered a brutal wind and rain storm and tonight had a spin with the kids in back and the top down.
So far so good...no leaks, drains seems to be working and the top fits tight and goes up and down properly.
Whew
