Exclamation New stang has rusty rear

Has anybody else seen this on there new stang? I have an 06 with 100 miles on it, theres not another spot underneath the car that has rust except this spot. Should I be worried about this and take it back to the dealership? It looks like surface rust, I can't see any pitting in the metal yet!

sad but normal sorry to say. There's no protective coating on the rear end so it will rust. It will out last us all if that makes you feel any better. You can paint it if you want to

Ehhhh.... your okay, its not a problem, just unsightly, If it bothers you a bit to much, get under there with a wire brush and siome steel wool then paint it black, or just takes some steel wool and knock the big rust off and paint it black, or just paint it black.

I just never have had it out in the rain ever. Ordered it and grabbed it as soon as it hit the lot (1 hr.)

Silver,

Here's a pic I just took off my '07. I've got 1,300 miles, but it's also never been in the rain. I bet all it takes is one or two times of getting wet and it gets full of surface rust.....ever notice a disc brake rotor on a car that's sat outside for two days....same thing.

I painted mine with black hammerite, and it worked great! It dries very quickly (about 15 minutes) and doesn't require any more surface prep than just a quick mineral spirit wipe. One word of caution: mask over your axle identification tags very well before you approach them with mineral spirits, or else they will get erased.

steevr: In which state do you reside?

Every Ford we own with a RWD rear-end made by Ford has light surface rust. It is nothing to be concerned about. My 1981 T-bird's 7.5" has had 26 years worth of rust and its still holding up. The underbody, however, is another story!

I had the same worry with mine, but went to the dealer and they said what everyone else here says - No big deal, normal. So, don't worry about it. Mine came off the lot that way, because I noticed it the day I got it home.

I'm curious if anyone here has ever owned another RWD Ford? Because the rear end ALWAYS rusts unless you paint the axle. My 00 Vic was delivered straight from the factory with rust on the surface of the axles and pumpkin.

No big deal on the rust. No one will see it anyway. If you are planning on taking the car to shows though you might want to put some naval jelly on the rust and then paint.

Don't worry about the rust.T-Rex and 3ft flyin roaches will be back before that rear rusts to the bone.
