The problem with the Mercedes, Volvos, etc is not that their quality is worse than anyone else. It's that it costs so much to repair them. That is why I ditched my Volvo and I am switching to Ford.

The dealerships were charging $100/hour to work on the car. American cars tend to run $60-$80/hour. Plus the parts are much cheaper.

There's a strap at the bottom of the seat you can use to keep the belt within reach.

Here's some info that may provide insight into the issues that some folks have found:

1. The thing that looks like a patch of metal in firewall is on every car. It is not a defect or a bad patch job. That plate is there to allow installation of dash wire harness and climate control components. You are seeing sealant squeeze out around the edges. That's not a bad welding job.

2. Irregular window drop function. Window smart motors are calibrated when they leave the plant. However, if the battery was disconnected for any reason (for example during dealer prep), the smart windows need to be recalibrated. Instructions for doing this are in the owners manual. You just have to hold the window buttons in the full up position for 5 secs.

3. Whining noise is most likely coming from axle or transmission. It's not a sign of any structural problems. The noise is the result of tooth mesh between two gears in contact. This typically gets better with mileage as the gears wear in and lap with eachother. If it really bothers you, you should have your dealer look at it.

I was at the Ford Innovation Drive in Atlanta yesterday, and I asked an engineer about the patch. I pointed to it and asked "What is this, some sort of retrofit'?

I forgot the specifics of his answer, but he explained that is has something to do with sound quality in the cabin. He then went on a long tangent about how the engineers made sure that the driver hears the rumble of the engine and exhaust, but no unwanted noises.

I experienced some real wind buffeting today. If you drive at highway speed with the drivers side window down and the passenger window all the way up...the buffeting is unbearable. Minor situation, but something I wasn't expecting at all. Had to crack the passenger side an inch to reduce/eliminate it.

My company car (Crossfire) does exactly that, must be to do with the window shape or something.

Badandy, in the picture below, see the strap that runs from the forward edge of the side of the seat back down to the seat base? The strap can be detached from the base (it's magnetic), and you are supposed to run the seat belt through it and reattach it. It's the "belt guide" on page 85 in the Owner's Manual.

It's a good rule never to buy any car in its first model year.
I use to think that but now I don't care. If it is going to break it will regardless of the first model year or not.

Hey,

I picked up my Sonic Blue GT last Friday and it was the first one down here in Sarasota FL. I love the way the car drives, but unfortunately the air conditioning has ALREADY died on me which is a bummer in Florida. The blower is working fine but the air comes into the cabin heated a few degrees above the outside air. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come for my car. I have an appointment with my dealer later this week to have the issue addressed. Has anyone else had this problem? I also let Ford Customer Care know about the issue so that if others have the same problem they can issue a technical service bulletin.

Thanks

Everyone needs to make sure that the polished threshold is on both the drivers side AND passenger side. Mine is missing the drivers side. I heard about someone else seeing this same hiccup. Mustang2John, don't you work in finish and trim? Are you responsible for this? J/K!
In the real world, nothing is made to be invincible, except the blackbox in a plane, and sometimes, they have a hard time finding those! When there's money to be made, aftermarket, parts stores, automotive shops, warranty work....things will break, things will not be perfect, etc. enough said here!

The only problem that I've found so far is a problem with refueling. It seems that the gas pump auto-shut off at two different gas stations (so far) trips prematurely and I have to squeeze the pump handle only half way in order to fill the tank.
I hope this doesn't happen at all gas stations. Could the fuel filler neck in the Mustang be too small?

Probably has more to do with the gas station equipment. I've experienced that with all kinds of cars at some stations.

Yeah, I have had it happen at a pump, with my T-bird. Then return to that same pump at a later date and it works fine. Then sometimes it doesn't. Not consistent, so I assume it is something with the gas pump.

I'd expect some problems with the car considering how fast they produce these things regardless of the first model year or not. I just hope it is on the road more than it is in the shop for repairs.
