Anyone heard anything definitive about the upcoming Mach 1? My sources are saying that instead of the 5.4 N/A motor originally thought to go in the new Mach that it would have the 4.6 DOHC S/C'd Terminator ('03/'04) Cobra motor.

I did a search but couldn't find anything here. Anyone else have more hard-core info? Release date is supposedly late/06 or early '07 (as an '07 model and will be shown possibly as early as the New York Show.

Anyone?

That'd be interesting... maybe saving the 5.4 for when they need it (ie: 2009-2010)

I could see using it.
Its on the shelf, ready to go....
And its a known powerhouse.

Don't know if we'd see it as an 07...

Kevin seems to have found out the DOHC 4.6 will be showing up in '08.. whether or not its supercharged is beyond me.

The Terminator motor has a lot of R&D in it... its a shame it was only run for 2 model years.

It will be interesting to see how the shaker would be made functional with a S/C and the height of the hood.

I'm guessing if that model and engine combination came out, they may do a different variation of the Mach1 hood, along the lines of the 71-73. Then again, they may do something completely different.

The Mach 1 without the shaker would not be as appealing or popular. The shaker and Heritage wheels are part of the Mach 1 cues, just like the flat black chin and rear spoilers are.

I would be inclined to think it would be N/A, probably with a 5.4.

Speculation about potential Mach-1 mills goes way back on this forum. And I recall myself and several others speculating that a variation of the blown 4.6L used in the 03-04 Cobra seemed like a logical choice since it was an off the shelf part and since it offered a lot of power and torque. When the Adrenalin concept showed up with a Terminator mill between the fenders this really had me convinced that the blown 4.6L was likely for Mach-1 duty, since now two vehicles could be used to offset costs and we already had a vehicle slated to use the motor.

Now that the Adrenalin concept is apparently a no-go I am no longer as certain that a blown 4.6L is a shoe in for Mach duty. For that matter, if the Mach-1 was slated to use the same blown 4.6L the Adrenalin was.....and if that truck truly is dead in the water......will that have an ill-effect on the Mach-1's future?

I just don't see the 4.6 dohc as being that big a power increase over the 3v if its NA. It is aluminum though. I would still bet on the 5.4 NA, more bang for the buck.

I think a n/a 5.4 would be better. Can you imagine throwing a PowerHouse turbo on that sucker?

Back before the GT500 was shown for the first time in New York, my in house SVT 'spy' gave me a lot of info on the car that turned out to be around 90% accurate. At that time (and up until the last month) he was telling me that there would indeed be a new Mach (or an SE of some similar name such as Boss, etc) and that it would be a N/A version of the 5.4.

He is still saying that that is a possibility. But in the last month (since right before the NAIAS and since Ford's recent Financial troubles got worse) he has said that a higher powered S/E (above the GT) would be available but that it would now use the DOHC 4.6 Terminator engine to save costs. He is not saying this is 100% sure but then last night I open up one of my many Mustang mags that I subscribe too and I read the same thing (I think it was in 5.0 Mustangs) - that the Terminator motor would be in the new Mach!

So... we'll see and nothing is for sure until we can actually can touch it and buy it but it sure is exciting to consider.

Regarding the shaker issue - that's a good point but who knows; anything is possible with the right engineering and willingness to spend money. To me, a Shaker is not a have to have for a Mach but it sure is nice to see them on there.

EDIT: One other thing - he did say that there are already at least two different '06 bodied GT's on the streets and in development using the 4.6 Terminator engine. One is black but the other one he has not seen. Both have a stock 4.6 DOHC S/C'd engine and supposedly, plumbing for a shaker is not an impossibility but is being looked at closely due to cost.

Uhhhh...That 5.0 artlicle that your talking about was in the April fools joke. There is a very good possiblility that it was entirely made up.

Yeah, I saw that it was part of that article but who knows? I had my info before I even saw that piece but I did think it was interesting.

The Ford Marketing Rep. I spoke to last year at the Cleveland Auto Show was very accurate about the Cobra ( a.k.a Shelby ). The only thing he didn't tell me was that it was going to be called a Shelby. We asked him about a Mach1 or SE and he said 2007 or 2008. That was last year, so I am going to pick his brain if I see him this year in Cleveland.
Although I really want a 5.4L, I would be thrilled with the old Cobra motor in a new Mach1.

I would MUCH rather see a 5.4 N/A in the Mach as opposed to the 4.6 DOHC S/C ... Just my two cents..

I would just like the fact that one is coming to be verified. I don't car if it's a black and white spy photo or some bodies uncle, cousins, brothers, sisters friend. I just want proof.

Oh yea and the 5.4 litre...

Are you talking about the 5.0 cammer motor for the Mach1 ,which 05 Mustang GT race teams use in Grand Am cup?
