New guy with questions

I wish I found this website/forum 3 months ago. I've spent hours reading your posts & have found great info. After selling my '67 coupe 18 years ago I'm finally getting back into the Mustang family.

Here's my situation. On or about 05/01/06, I ordered an 07 GT Premium, torch red, charcoal leather, 5 speed, 18" polished aluminum, IUP, AAT, side air. At the time I was told the car would be in at the end of July. After reading some of your posts and discovering some of you are or have already taken delivery of your 07's I called the dealer. He said the car probably won't be in until late August or early Sept. FIGURES!

Through your posts I've learned what VOC and DORA stand for, but what is an ERL? How is it used to track the production of your car?

Also, I'm not mechanically inclined and have noticed that the 3.55 gears are now an option on the 07's. I did not order this at the time. What are the performance differences between the standard 3.31 gears and the optional 3.55 gears? I don't plan on drag racing the car so would I be better off with the standard gears? Will I get better MPG with the 3.31's?

Any other suggestions, comments, etc would be greatly appreciated. I had no idea the amount of info out there.

ERL stands for "Evil Robot Lady" which is the nickname given to Fords automated system that gives out car production status. There is a 800# going around that you can call to get the status of your car. You'll need the information from the VOC or the VIN# to get the ERL to tell you the status of your car.

I'm not an expert on the gears, but I do know that the 3.55 used to be standard in 05'-06'. I think you get better fuel economy with the 3.31 gears, but the 3.55 gears will get you off the line quicker and provide a more sporty feel to your car.

That description is correct.

For '05 and '06, the 3.55 ratio was standard on the manual tranny GTs. The 3.31 ratio was standard with autos. For '07 both manual and auto trannys come with the 3.31 ratio. The 3.55 is optional only on manual tranny GTs.
