New to the forum. Looking at buying a 4 litre convertible for the wife

Hey all, new to the forum.

Nice forum here. Been doing lots of reading.

I'm looking at buying the wife a 2005-10 4 litre convertible. Still searching for the right one.

I'm also trying to figure out if there are particular years we should stay away from? If so, why?

Any input is appreciated.

Also, any buying tips would be appreciated. What do I look at when buying one of these used?

cheers and thanks

+1! And far more durable! Engine is proving to be almost indestructible lol. Plus the jump in gas mileage

I'd say a 2011 also, if that's doable. If money is the issue, I'm sure you'll still be more than happy with an 05-09. As far as years to stay away from...the newer it is, the better. They've worked out small bugs over the years. Nothing really major, just small stuff. For example: My parents' 2007 auto shifter is much smoother than my 2005 auto. Things like that. Newer ones also have more options (heated seats, navigation, etc.). As far as durability...my 2005, after 7 years, has no major issues to report. *knocks on wood* Just make sure any TSB's have been performed (another reason why newer is better).

I have a 2009 V6 and I really like it, from what I hear the 4.0L is almost bullet proof as well, as far as fuel economy I average about 18 but than again I like to go fast on start up. But If I dont get into the gas pedal I can get around 25-26 mpg on average and on a road trip mostly highway I was able to get 30 mpg on a 3+ hour drive. LIke said before the newer models have the better features and are the better models to go with.

Thanks for all your replies all.

Yes, I agree. I am really liking what I read on the 2011. However, I don't want to spend $25-30K. Not really in our budget (2 kids in University ugh).

I had a Ford Ranger with a 4.0 litre and that truck was pretty much indestructible. However, it loved fuel.

We really like the 07-10 with the Pony package. (front lights in the grill and the 5 spoke bullit type rims). I don't know what else that package gives?

I live in Ontario, Canada but find the used prices ridiculous here. I am looking a buying on the U.S. side and taking one home. It's pretty east to export a vehicle to Canada form the U.S.

RED is the colour she MUST have....lol (strict orders on that).

If anyone knows any really good ones for sale at a good price, please let me know.

cheers and thanks

csr.

06-09 Pony package cars have the front fog lights and the GT style rims like you mentioned. There is also the fender mounted pony badges, the rear spoiler, and the unique front floor mats along with the rear anti-sway bar and the larger GT front anti-sway bar. There is also the unique "Mustang" side stripe along the rocker panel, but one could have it deleted as an option (the choice I made).

In 06 only, the package included the 4 wheel disc with anti-lock. That part of the package was dropped out after '06, but they still wanted the same $$$
