NEW Engine in 09

A reliable source indicates a possible new 351 CI Engine in the Works for the 09 Mustang. R&D being Tested at the Present. No other Info at this Time.

Would be a good bold move. As much as we like our 4.6, they aren't going to compete with the likes of the 5.8s of the world from GM and DCM.
Bring on the 351!!

That wouldn't surprise me, I'd think they'd want to generate interest with a special model the year before a redesign. What would surprise me is if they gave us a new engine with a new body in 2010. They always hold things back on intro so they can add excitement as time goes on.

Makes perfect sense to me. Bring out the new motor for a test run in a limited edition model before the restyle. Then make it standard affair in the new body style.

it'll also help with sagging dropping sales right before the new design.

5.8/6.2L OHV V8 engines, here we come.

If they do that in 2009, I would wait at least 2-3 years for them to fix the bugs. Look at the 2005-2006 Mustang GTs with the number of small problems. I think the 2007s still have a lot of bugs to weed out.

don't hold your breath...To be more realistic, IF they decide to put a bigger engine in their would be a 5.4L N/A which is about 331CI? what you guys have to understand is that gas prices are so high, they wouldn't put a big *** engine in the mustang which would qualify the stang as a gas guzzler. Which as you know would call for gass guzzler tax. I would be perfectly happy if they through in a 5.0L or 5.4L w/ an alluminum block to keep the front end weight down.

That would be enough for the stang to compete with the camaro thats comin out as long as they keep the weight down, and for the SS just slap a eaton based s/c on 5.4L with forged enternals and your good.

Something encouraging to think about...The 6.0L GTO with manual tranny had no guzzler tax, but the same GTO with auto tranny did.

To what bugs are you referring?

Fuel tank slow to fill
Axle howl / moan
Sound while turning at low speeds
Smart Junction Box failure due to possible leakage
Water entering passenger compartment possibly through grommets
Erratic fuel gauge behavior (probably supplier issue, since 07 Focus has same TSB)
dash rattling
and other minor problems

I imagine waiting 3 years might reduce the likelihood of this. However, assuming that redesigned components and assembly procedures are updated within several months of problem trends being identified in any given model year, then that is probably the ideal state. The fact that issues still exist after 2 years of manufacturing means that there is too much delay built into the feedback loop between the dealers and Ford.

Warranty is critical!

2009 you'll see Ford's first Multi Displacement Engine on the Stang.
V8 for sure...V6 maybe.

About time...A little late in the game...but a step in the right direction. Make me want to hold of any major modes on my 07, and trade it up for the 2009.

Will this be a V-8 or the V-10 they tested a few years ago? Anybody remember the 2003 BOSS 351 they had at the 40th in Nashville? It had a V-10

LOL, you'd have to pay two gas guzzler taxes for the V10...

Metro, you may find this odd, but I have put over 7,000 miles on my car, and NOT 1 PROBLEM!!! Solid car. I know there were a few in 2005, but so far, none of the GT's I sold in 2006 have come back with any issues.
