I just picked up my brand new 2008 Silver Metallic GT today! I love the car, but have one question. I noticed a whining noise around 3000rpms. Is this normal? Everything is is great!

 

1) Whining in every gear, or one gear in particular?
2) Does it go away if you give it some gas, or is it whining no matter what throttle you are at?
3) Manual or Auto Trans??
4) Do you think the whining is coming from the transmission, or the engine?

 

Could be a little gear whine from the rear end.

 

On the way to work I did not notice it this morning, but i'll see if it returns when I drive home tonight. It sounded like it was coming from the front right of the drivers seat. The car is a manual transmission. I'll lookout for what gear it's in and speed next time and report back. Thanks for your help guys.

 

Not that this pertains to you but I've heard that autos whine a bit in 2nd gear, I know mine does under hard acceleration, not sure if this is normal though.

 

Okay here is what I'm hearing.
When I'm in second gear I hear a slight whining noise. In 3rd gear i get a loud high pitched whining noinse pretty loud around 45mph. If i push the accelarator it gets louder. 1st 4th 5th neutral - no whine. What do you think this is? It seems transmission related to me - it sounds like its coming out of the dash stack. Is this normal or should i take it in?

 

I do notice a little tranny whine in some gears, I can't remember what gears though. I have over 60K miles on mine and no problems. It may be nothing, depends on how loud it is.
