Ok so when a dealer gets one of these new 05's...what are they going to do to it before an owner can drive away? What are the typical predelivery procedures?

When I bought my 02, it came in on a wednesday afternoon, and I was able to pick it up on the friday morning.

I asked what they were going to do to it, and all they told me, they check it over (40 pt inpsection or something), take it for a quick test drive (there was about 12km on the odometer when I got it) and then recheck everthing (for leaks, etc).

Of the 2 months it took to come in, the last 2 days were the longest.

And my thought is, let them do the prep.

Why, you ask? Because of you let THEM do the prep, when you check the car BEFORE accepting delivery, you can lay any problems at their feet. You can insist things be made right BEFORE you drive the car off the lot.

Once you take it off the lot, all bets are off.

First the car is taken off the truck by the transport driver. Its then inspected for body damage and signed for if non is found. When the car arrives there are often large sheets of white plastic tape that cover the body of the car or certain areas of the body to protect the paint during transport. There are also clear plastic bags over the seats and large clear plastic tape over the floor board.

Sometimes the floor tape is left in place to protect the carpet until the car is sold.

These all get removed and the car is inspected useing a Ford QC checklist about 125 points. All fluids are checked as well as functionality of the lights, breaks, wipers and such. The final step of the QC checklist is a 1-2 mile roadtest.

Once the car has passed the QC inspection it is washed and detailed, and placed on the lot.

All this takes about 30 minutes, for a team of four. About 2 hours if only one person is working on the car.

My dealer has told me I can take it away 30 mins after its unloaded from the truck. I donot see why they would keep it any longer.

the prep is pretty cool.....but i would suggest u tell them to put no tire goo. also if u like washing it a certain way tell them not to wash it and if u want them to wash it dont let them wax it. i live right in the middle of 3 dealers....jack daniels audi/porsche/VW.......i ususally see the cars driving around town with the white tape and foam padding its pretty cool

Often the only problem with the tire shine product dealers use it they use to much. If they would spray it on then wipe it off to the point that its no longer wet many problems could be avoided.

Yeah, if you don't want to deal with the tire shine picking up dirt, or possibly flinging up onto the side of the car as your drive, either bring a rag or tell them not to use it.

I have instructed my dealer NO STICKERS! I told him I'd sport a license plate holder for a little while, but no stickers. They've been so nice about this car! Also, I've asked that they don't put the car into the showroom for other people to climb into it!
