I see there are some good deals on remaining new 2003 Mustang Cobra's. They probably wouldn't cost much more than a loaded 2005 Mustang GT. Which do you think would be better?

It depends on personal preference... Is Hp more important or looks? -For me I'm choosing looks because I like driving the newest style of a car. To me driving a left over car just does not feel the same...

I'd personally rather have the new design both for the styling and the new chassis that is guaranteed to be a better, more advanced setup. There is, however, something to be said for having the baddest SN95 made. It'd be a tough choice, but 300 hp in the new Mustang > 390 in the old one to me.

I would chose Looks over *****. The 05 is one sweet looking car compared to the 03 cobra. But the cobra still looks very good also. I don't think it would be hard to get the engine specs on the 05 up to the Cobra specs. Then you got looks and *****!

03 cobras are nice...if you throw in a live rear end in the thing....my buddy had one and the second time he brought it to the track he blew a half shaft...they are known for having problems. Too much HP for the car in my opinion...not to mention that its the same ol' sn95 interior

While the 2003 Cobra is a powerhouse, remember, it is a 5 year-old bodystyle and a 25 year-old platform, with a 10 year old interior.

I would rather get the '05, while not as powerful, it looks to be 10X more refined, a new modern interior, much better suspension and stiffer chassis. Plus I love the looks, much cleaner than the SN95.

You guys are right. I'll wait for the '05. That also gives me more time to save up money since I'll wait until the spring.

I'm getting the 05 becuase I LOVE the way it looks and its only about 70-80 hp off assuming this GT gas 290 rwhp. I'll be slowly and gradualy modding, not overnight, so that i'll be able to keep up and heck maybe even sur[hiney those 07 cobra's. Maybe too wishfull but i'll see what happens when it does. :drive:

the other thing to consider is how easy and cheap it is to get the cobra into even more power... we all know it was under rated and for about 1000 your talking 450 to the rear which is nothing to sneeze at...And don't forget those forged internals.

This just struck me as funny ....

400+ rwhp is not even close to being too much in these cars. You need to go out in a Cobra that was put on an AutoX or Road Course. My '99 is a blast on the track ..I wish I was pushing 400+. Cobras do pretty well at the 1/4 also.

Also, 1 person that blows a 1/2 shaft doesn't make the Cobra bad. The Cobra is not "known" for blowing 1/2 shafts. They are blown because the owners that do, think they can dump the clutch at 7000 rpms and be fine.

Not to mention forged internals, great handling, etc .....

WHAT you should do is go out and buy the '03 while they are reasonably inexpensive and then buy the '05 when it comes out.

LOL! i agree w/ snake bitten get the 03 cheap and trade it in in 07 for a cobra that will REALLY handle. i just got my MM&FF for this month and they have the write up on the 40th at nashville and they have pics of the 05 on the roadcourse in front of the Cobra R and the 05 looks great coming off the corners no body roll looks really well balanced. and this is compared to supposedly the baddest handler ford has made from a mustang. no imagin what they can do with the 07

I am pro-cobra all the way, but, the "deal" may not be as good a deal as it seems. Consider that the '03 is almmost a 2 year old car whne you drive it off the lot. Depreciation will offset the savings.

If I wanted a Cobra, I'd wait for the '07

I've been in love with all my GTs, since my first in '82. For those that feel the same way about them and want to retain the same thought, don't drive a Cobra. The feeling when driving one is unreal. And a lot of fun. If the design is the deciding factor then the '05 wins hands down.

I just got rid of my Black 2001 Mustang GT, so I can save money for a 2005 Mustang GT. I have a 1987 Mustang GT I am going to be farting around in until I get the new Stang.
I was hoping Ford would introduce an all-new Mach 1 as well, but I guess I will have to wait and see.
I spoke to a couple writers for a well known Mustang Magazine, and they thought it was very likely Ford will make a Mach 1, since Ford was very pleased with the sales the car produced.

I also wanted to tell you that on of the writers got to drive the new 05 GT Stang on media day, and he raved about it! He said it felt like a mid-13's car. Very fast and handled really well. He said we will be impressed!
Ford has stated that the new Mustang will "Run & Hide, from the 2004 model".

I doubt I will be able to wait for a Mach1 or a Cobra. So I will land up with my 3rd Mustang GT. But a 350 hp Mach 1 would be very nice, if Ford decides to make it.
With a near $40,000 price tag projected for the new Cobra, its getting tougher and tougher for an average Joe like me to afford these new cars.

One thing a ton of people forget is that N/A 390 horsepower is going to be a slower runner than a SC 390 hp. So to say that the car is only 70-80 HP off is technically correct, but there is a much larger performance gap. So even if the new stang was making 390, chances are it would still be slower then the SVT. Given, the new 3valve has VVT and will get torque more quickly. The Torque and Hp comes on much more quickly in a forced induction car. Granted it can make for difficult launches, but more then make up for it in the run. No one has seen an 05 up against an 03 SVT, but I bet it would blow the 05 away. Just my 2 cents.

There is no argument IMO that the 03-04 SVT's will be faster than the '05 GT

The '05 GT is supposed to mimic outgoing SN95 Mach1 performance numbers, that in itself is fantastic.
