need help catastrophic engine failure
hello all i recently put my 2006 ford mustang gt in the shop. the vehicle has 29k on the odo and the local dealership says they are going to have to pull the engine because there isnt enough oil pressure. they originally told me that the cam shaft phaysers were also bad.. what is going on here.. i think it was like 17% is what they told me. well here is my problem.. i purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle theough the bank where i financed the vehicle. dealer ship goes to file the clame and they tell them not to touch the car and that they will have an adjuster out in 24 hours to look at the car. then the dealer ship says that at the worst they may have to replace the engine. so here are the questions...
if they replaced the engine with a new one will it come warrantied for three years?
i understand that the vehicle has a three year 36k warranty but for complete engine failure??? is the engine only warrantied for three years.
what do i do if the warranty company refuses to pay for the repairs. i really havent done anything to the car except change the oil and add a jlt cold air intake. by the way i removed the cai before i took it into the shop..
any help will be appreciated brothers and sisters...

Wow sounds like bad luck man....... is your factory powertrain warranty expired? Is that why the dealer tried to file the claim through the extended warranty company? What was the car doing that made you take it to the dealer?
Who's oil filter did you use? There has been engine failures due to Fram filters documented by Ford. If the is under three years old and it is also under 36000 miles the Ford factory warranty should cover it. Aftermarket warranty companies would (in the case of engine failure) only replace with like condition parts, I.E. used engine. They also do not like to pay. I have a customer at 10 months and now in court because they do not want to fix it. Five weeks they had the car and the motor went. They had told her it covered everything but the radio and the exhaust. Food for thought.
The engine they will install has its own warranty that begins at replacement. It is 3 years, but they will tell you the years and mileage. Not sure if its changed.
The factory 3/36 will cover a complete engine if needed.
You shouldn't worry yet, just wait to see what they work out. Let us know.

if the pressure is low, the phasers may not work right?
if the phaser is bad, wonder if it might be blowing oil pressure?
hopefully you just got a bad phaser and somehow its blowing oil pressure- if it were mine, thats what I'd be hoping for anyways...just hard to say if one problem is causing both symptoms, from the several posts Ive read about phasers failing, they seem to be a little less bulletproof than the rest of the engine.
spent 5 hours today at dealership.. they told me the members choice warranty ppl told them they were not going to pay because the car is covered under a 60k power train warranty. ford says that the powertrain warranty was only good for the original owner. we went bank and forth then found out that the warranty is transferrable. so i transfered it into my name for the low low price of $75.00. now ford says they wont fix it because the problem is pre existing. so were back to my warranty i purchased. ford has faxed them a letter stating that they will not cover the repair. will have to see tomorrow what comes next. as for the filter question ford filters only. i cant believe this is happening i really love the car but well i dont know anymore as for a used motor "i dont think so" unless they can garantee that the used motor only has 29k miles on it. im not lookinf for something for nothing i just want either ford or members chioce warranty to make it right.. ya know what i mean. i put alot of love time and care into this car.. this just pisses me off that either one of them tell me that im just out of luck.... if i get no's tomorrow i guess they will be talking to my lawyers
How can the problem be pre-existing with a 6/60 warranty? Pre-existing from when? And what is it that caused the failure to begin with that they say was pre-existing? Confusing. I would not spend a dime. You bought an extended warranty .. tell the warranty co. that you are contacting a lawyer if they don't repair the car.
the aftermarket warranties suck. the first new car I ever bought was a 85 camaro, came from Burt Greenwald Chevrolet in Akron Ohio, all cars they sold had 'bodygard' 5 year warranty paint protectant- and cost 500 bucks...long story short, bought it, all the paperwork was done, I couldnt pick up the car till it was done- they burnt thru the paint on the quarter and both doors, had to repaint it. less than a year later the paint on the hood and roof starts peeling off- took it in and the bodygard application voided the factory warranty, and theres a fine print 6 month inspection required or the bodygard waranty is void. 500 extra bucks to ruin the paint and void the warranty and they would not do anything to make it right. they couldnt give me a car even today- with crap service I tend to hold a grudge.
one of several dealerships that screwed me over and I let them do it, my fault for not pushing for a new car the day I bought it/day they ruined the oem door-quarter paint while ruining the rest of it... 3 of 5 new cars I bought had major delivery body damage headaches, all from different dealers...I really believe the only decent warranty out there is the ones the cars come with- getting it extended at purchase might not be a bad move(I havent bought one yet, but know folks like my mom that do, and it usually paid for itself...roll the dice). sorry to hear they didnt transfer the warranty when you bought it- sadly on a used vehicle, hard to imagine Ford doing much about it- worse, I would cancel/invalidate that 60 if youre going to push for the secondary coverage- they might say the car had 60k coverage, but if it didnt, perhaps that point could be fought(unless now you do have 60k)...depends if their language says their warranty STARTS at 60 K, or if it just EXTENDS warranty to xxx miles. good luck
again though- maybe its just a cam phaser busted up leaking oil pressure badly- maybe the bottom end is OK...or maybe something as silly as a bad phaser solenoid venting oil- as the cams shift time pretty darn quick/pretty darn often, would HAVE to imagine theres a decent volume going thru the solenoids into the phasers...might be well worth a look- hope and pray its something stupid and a theyre just trying to 'sell' a engine.
Not all dealers/techs are inept or con artists, but there are some out there...

You might get some clarity on the issue by posting on www.blueovalnews.com , several Ford employees over there and they now the ins and outs of warranties.
I think they say it is pre-existing because you did not get the warrenty transfered untill later and by the time you got it the car already had the problem. Its like buying a car with a wrecked front end then going to an insurance company, buying a policy, then asking them to fix it. I could be wrong though, and yes i do agree with Tom281.
Wait, what? I gotta transfer the factory warranty on my engine?
This is intriguing... When did that rule come in, and where's the fine print, and where do I go to do this?!
/not to hijack the thread, but verification on this is kinda important... 60K, I still got 15K to go.

according to the dealer i bought the car from the sales person didnt know that the original owner of the vehicle bought the extended powertrain warranty. there fore i wasnt told that there was one to be transferred. i did transfer the warranty on 9-17-09 but as you know the problem was pre existing. i blame ford becuase the car has 29k miles on it and its broken and they wont fix it. i blame the after market warranty company becuase they denied my claim because according to oasis the warranty is only good for the original owner. hopefully i will find out something new today. like someone saying yeah its covered but i dont think ill hear anything of the sort...
houtex if your not the original owner and u didnt purchase the extended powertrain warrantyu dont have a powertrain warranty. the 2006 did not have powertrain. powertrain was not given to mustang buyers until 2007. 2006 owners were given the oppertunity to purchase the extended coverage. in 2007 the coverage was automatic.
Hey bud, I'm sorry about the issues your having. Let me ask you? The Extended Service Plan that was on the car when you bought it. Was it a Ford ESP? If it was, it goes with the car if not expired. It doesn't matter if they transfer it to you before or after the issue. It was there when you bought the car and its there now. I would tell the dealer to get it done and NOT back down from that stance!!! I'm sorry to hear about your issues.
yes its a ford esp but according to the oasis computer the warranty was only good for the original owner. later we found out its transferrable. so i transferred it into my name.. but yes all i had to do was track down the original owner and then have him bring it in i guess. i should have tried that...

i have to agree with that ... but what do i do now.. here it is ive been off work for almost two weeks and no ride to have fun in or pamper... im going out of my mind not knowing weather or not they are going to fix my ride...
