Need advice for a service call gone bad

On 8-24 I took my 06 Mustang GT in to a Ford Dealer because I had an airbag service light flashing a code 43--Drivers side restraint module fault. Sounded like a simple fix but as of today, almost 4 weeks later they are no farther along fixing it than when they started. Ford has had Techs telling what pins to check, they installed a new module but same code with the new one. A Ford tech was supposed to be there today to try his hand in person. The car has had some alterations, it's been made up to look like a Super Snake. But nothing that should be giving them this much trouble. My question is just how much of the countless hours they've put in should a person be responsible for. I'm 66 and I've never seen anything like this before. The car only has 4200 miles on it has an Edelbrock E Force Supercharger on it with 3"Borla Exhaust & short tube headers. The list goes on and on but it is a blast to drive!! Thanks for your help.

You're responsible. Sorry.

The entire warranty of an airbag is just like a door panel or such. Whatever body warranty was in effect, which in this case was 3 years/30,000 miles. After that, you foot the bill for any repairs/diagnostics.

That said, since Ford themselves are involved, perhaps a lightening of the load is in order here.

/I too find it infuriating that a federally mandated safety item would not be covered like rust through protection is: Unlimited.

//That said... not sure seatbelts and the seats themselves are under warranty or whatever... so... yeah.

So have they kept your car the entire 4 weeks or have you been taking it back and fourth?

I'd suggest that you ask them where you stand -- how much do you owe them so far, and how much should you expect to complete the job.

You might be surprised, they might actually treat you fairly and only charge you for a reasonable number of hours, since they apparently do not know what they are doing.

Yeah I know, that is not likely, but it is possible and maybe you don't need to worry.

I find most places will be fair, but then again I'm not counting dealerships.

OK Here the end to my story. The owner before me started the conversion and had put on a front bumper from an 07 or 08 GT 500. The problem was found there after many false code readings having to do with side sensors. 06 only has one impact severity sensor and not side sensors. Calls to Ford techs and one even came to Iowa to figure it out. Some Ford Hotline Escalation Team figured the problem of the sensors out. They removed side impact sensors and did a reset and life is good without airbag warning light flashing. Now for the life ain't so good news! They took $1000 off my labor bill and that dropped the grand total to $2138 bucks. OUCH!! But it's kinda hard to argue since it really wasn't Fords fault. All is well and still driving a MUSTANG

Thanks for all your comments and advice! It's great to know that there is a place to go to ask questions and share our adventures in Mustanging (probably not in Websters Dictionary) !! Be Safe and Thanks again.
