Neat IP Feature

Last night, I was driving home. My "my color" was set to blue. Gas was low. At some point, the lighting on the fuel gauge turned red -- no indicator light -- but the lighting on the entire gauge. This was not a feature that I was aware of. The neat thing about it seems to be that you ought to be able to program (if you know the codes, etc.) additional color combos like the GT500 RWB -- perhaps even different colors for different gauges in the 4 pod and the speedo /tach. Does anyone have any additional information on this? Webelectric?

I sort of looked at this as an "undocumented" feature of the IUP - never read anything about the fuel gauge turning red when gas was low.

Thoughts, comments?

The gas gauge lighting changes to red at 11 miles until empty. It only occurs when the park/headlamps are on. This feature applies for all model years (2005 +). Also, most dealerships don't know about this.... I'm not surprised.

Moved to the main forum as this "feature" is not specific to the GT/CS model.

If you have it set to red the gas gauge stays red when the fuel goes low from my experience.

My fuel guage changes to red when I'm at 10 miles to empty (which I've done a couple times). I also had a catastrophic alternator failure last year and the ammeter/voltmeter/whatever guage went read when the alternator stopped charging and the battery was almost drained. I suspect the coolant temp guage and oil pressure guage do the same thing, but I never want to test that theory!

I believe this is in the owners manual somewhere, I remember reading it a couple years ago. The gauges go red when in a "Warning" state. I've seen 2 of them do it now. Just 2 weeks ago I had the alternator failure just like mentioned above, and 3 years ago, on my '05, I forgot to plug the fan back in after installing the underdrive pullies, and the coolant got a little hot on the way home from work the next day. Fortunately it happened at a long light, and I figured it out instantly, and was able to pop the hood, jump out, and plug it in before the light turned green.

I'll get to test that tonite in my BULLITT. Right now It says "43 miles to E". Still using the Dealer's Gas, too. Have to go to our Club Meeting 35 miles, one way. And, I use the Blue also. Can't wait, because I'm not paying the $4.32 at my local station before I leave!!

I still want to know if anyone has looked at the programming possibilities. If it will change color to red by gauge -- it seems like a little tweaking in the computer ought to allow you to change colors independently or hack the RWB color scheme in the GT500. Seems like Webelectric ought to be able to put a module together for this -- but I seem to be the only one interested.

I am interested and I think you are right and it must be possible. I just don't know how either.

Mine will be set to blue, and forgotten, and it'll look even better when I change all the other interior lights from green to blue

I've seen some tach's that the needle changes to to red as it gets close to redline, pretty sweet!

Yeah it also goes red if the fuel level sending unit goes bad. It will also display the DTC in the info center part of the dash. That's happened to me twice not long after getting the car. Hasn't happened in a while now.
