My Poor Pony

So i've had my mustang for a year now and unfortunatly i've collected my fair share of dings. I've got side scrapes on both sides of my rear bumper from parking near checker auto parts (happened in the same week), a dent and scrapes on the front right of the car and gouges in my front bumper, not to mention numerous scratches and dings. I really want to fix my car but i don't have the funds to pay for it all to be done professionally. As you can see, i've tried to cover most of the scratches using a touch up brush.

Someone actually told me i could buy a cheap air brush and go over the scratches with that but i'm worried about messing my car up. Is it a bad idea? i really need to save money on these repairs so it'd be nice if i could do it myself.

Also i was going to see if the dent near the headlight is removable at a paintless dent removal shop - i've already tried dry ice and all the home-remedies for dents but none have worked. It was from a collision but do you guys think it's still possible to get it out that way?

It really sucks to have my car like this, even though none of it's major. I still remember when i first got it and how hard i worked to keep it nice - lately i've just started to give up on that and i always feel like **** when i walk outside and see my half-assed touch up paint job.

Anyway the point is how much do you guys think this will be to get fixed?

Looks like some of that could be buffed out but I'm not sure. Take it too a reputable paint shop and get an estimate. It won't cost you anything for a quick estimate and they should be happy to do it.

Maybe a bra for front clip this spring? I am not one to cover up something but in this case, it would look nice and all. There is a new style of airless touchup paint these PDR shops have now, talk to them about your situation.

I would see how much at a proffesional body shop as well most looks buffable, as far as the dents they will know that also. Don't ever give up on such a beauty. She will look good as new just keep taking car of her.

Wow, quite a bit of action going on there, like DynamicMustang stated, I would seek out a professional body shop to get those fixed.

I say pro shop too. The front dent can be mostly massaged out but will still need a little spot filler and paint. The bumpers can easilly be fixed with sanding and blend painting(by a pro that is).

Forget airbrushing it yourself unless you really know what you're doing. The bumper paint requires special considerations (flex agent) and dealing with the factory clearcoat on touchups is challenging as well. If you can't afford the repairs then wait until you can, you might as well get it done right.

And remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Park WAY away from everyone else. There is nothing wrong with getting a little exercise

I went to a paintless dent removal place today and they quoted me 250 dollars to get it fixed. Is it just me or is this ridiculously high?

Yeah, go to the professionals.

Ive been reading about some clear coating over a paint that supposedly protects the paint. I know that it is offered on Mini's, does anyone know if these are any good?

I had a couple of mishaps in my car. Long story short, a scratch that went down to the black plastic in the rear bumper cover and the replacement/paint of one GT side skirt cost me $1000.00. Body work doesn't come cheap but if done right it looks just as good as new.

I wouldn't suggest trying to air brush any large scrathes. You may look into those advanced touch up kits that require some prep and sanding. But you probably will never be able to touch-up anything larger than 1/4" without it being noticable. That dent is on a crease, thats probably why they want $250.00. IMO it'd be worth it but I'd do some shopping around maybe you can find it cheaper.

BTW my bumper had to be completely stripped and repainted. Even though it was only a 3" X 3/16" scratch. They could have done a smaller patch but the guy said it would never match perfectly.

ugh, this one hurts me. I was on the way to work today, merged onto the highway and about 10 seconds later I hear "CHING!" - like metal striking glass. Chipped the windshield. about a grain of rice sized, but concaved w/ no spider mark.

Luckly, nothing hit the paint, but I was doing 60 so this object must of been going 100+ from off a tread. Wouldn't be a big deal, but I only got 850mi on the car....that hurts...

Going to see my local glass repair place today...

That's INSANELY expensive. I sold an 06 ranger yesterday that had three gouges in the bumper cover and fender flare, and scratches on the tailgate. had the front blend/repainted and repaired perfectly and the scratches buffed on the 'gate and it was $180. If it doesn't need major body work the dealer's bumper repair guys can fix it cheaply. I see blends all the time that are invisible when finished, even with extremely complicated colors like Fords tri-coat ceramic white.

We had a GT500 owner from another dealer get the plate holes in the bumper filled/painted and the front bumper stripes redone and it was under $300. Paintless dent removal is also extremely expensive if you go right to the guy. We have them come by the dealer twice a week and the average dent is under $75 to get fixed, most under $50, they do all the used cars on the lot. He may want to try running by the dealer and see if they have some hook-ups to get it fixed.

I just had a ding in my hood remove at a paintless dent removal shop. It cost me $160. Sounds like alot but the two body shops that quoted the jog wanted upwards of $550 The hood looks like nothing ever happened to it.

You definitely need to price shop PDR, $160 aint bad for a hood that's so smooth you have to get it perfect.

Paintless Dent Repair is fabulous...I have used the same guy for the past 10 years (now he only charges me $20 per ding). Wish they had that service when I started driving 36 years ago.
