My nice ride home interupted by a 2010 Camaro!! IDIOT!!

So I was on the way back to my girlfriend's place after a cruise-in at the local Dairy Queen. I was driving the highway alone, in the right lane, doing around 70 (in a 65). Then in my rear-view, I see bright-white lights coming up and coming up FAST!! I thought it was my buddy in his Mustang who joined me (I left before he did), but I noticed it wasn't his 2007 Twister Special Clone (cool look). It was a 2010 Yellow SS Camaro!!! 1st off, its freaking huge, compared to my car! While I have seen them up close, never next to me on the road. Its a boat!! But then, this douche decides to be an ***. He flanked me, gave a few taps on the gas pedal, lunging forward, egging me to race him! Never gave him the time of day!!! SORRY A$$ CLOWN, not doing it! It was a long, relaxing day, I wasn't alone in the car, and I'm not down with that (especially on that highway, cops EVERYWHERE). I have CHEAP, full-tort insurance and I want to KEEP IT THAT WAY! I don't do any of that crap!!!

So, he passes me and is gone...so I think. I come around the bend, and he's in the right lane, in front of me, like he's waiting for me (he slowed down behind a car in front of him in the right lane). I went to pass him (he was doing BELOW the limit), and he went around the car in front of him, just before I did, almost cutting me off. I eventually passed him, doing just over the limit (around 68 or so), and he then flanked me AGAIN, and tried to AGAIN egg me on! NOT HAVING IT!!! Keep it on the drag strip, NOT the streets!!! So, he again, saw I wasn't going to "play" and he left in a huff (floored it and took off, and I gotta say, the car does NOT sound at all!!! I know for a fact my longtubes and Stingers sound WORLDS better ).

But, its STILL NOT OVER!! I pass a few cars in front of me in the right lane & get in the left lane, he slowed again, hoping I would catch up. I passed a few more cars and got back in the right lane for my exit. Well, he darts in front, goes to the top of the ramp, and makes a left. I go right to head back to her house. What does this A$$ HAT do? Go right back on the expressway, and hunt for more people to race!!! FRICKING UNREAL!!! Looks to me, that he just got the car and wanted to race ANYONE that had a "hot" or muscle car and show him up. I wish my buddy who was at the show with me, brought his GT500. Its tuned buy Evolution and has 615 to the tires. He would have played with him and BLEW HIS A$$ AWAY, and only needed 1 minute to show him who's boss!

So I figured I would share that story. My car has 350 hp (302 to the tires, but weighs ALOT less than the SS). If I was stupid, and alone, it would have been interesting who would have won an acceleration contest or how close it would have been. But I'm NOT stupid and want to keep my car and my inexpensive insurance. Too bad his windows were too tinted, or I would check to see if he had a mullet or not.

That sucks. I'm always having to put up with ***-clowns in f bodies that want to race and I've either got kids in the car or I'm just not going to do it. I had one try to race me today in my '91. I was on main street in a 40mph zone. He was in his LS1 or LS2 or whatever and he tried to get me to go. I just laughed and drove like he wasn't there. So he floors its and is doing at least 65. Thing is there was a cop just over the hill and his *** got nailed. The guy was still speeding while the cop was trying to catch up to him. The Camaro was trying to get away. He finally got boxed in at a light about a mile up the road and when I passed them I smiled and laughed.

Does buying a Camaro cause you to lose all your brains, or does having no brains cause you to buy a Camaro?

I guess it's like the old chicken and the egg thing.

As a diehard Bowtie man, hence the darkside comment, I will concede to one thing: no matter what genre the car, there is always some jack-off behind the wheel. I do notice though that now that I'm once more behind the wheel of a Pony that the age old rivalry between 'Stang, Camaro, and Firebird is still VERY much alive.

But it's people that take the higher road that makes that rivalry more fun as ribbing at a car show and at the track.

Just my 2 cents.

While not as extreme as your mullet head, I had a Charger come up in the R lane (I was in L on a 4 lane, 45mph blvd) and hold even with me for about a half mile egging me to punch it. While I may have danced briefly to compare acceleration if it wasn't in city traffic, I'm sure not going to on a heavily patrolled, busy street in the middle of town, with stores on every side and cars turning each way, and traffic cams on every intersection. DUH!
I'm like you, I like having no tickets and affordable insurance. That 4 door family car can keep wondering how quick my V6 is!

My fellow Pennsylvaniaer, I hear you, but I have no idea what you’re saying. It’s obvious that someone in a Camaro was trying to race you, but your stands on street racing is all over the place... "I’m not down with that... full-tort insurance.... I don’t do any of that crap... NOT HAVING IT...", but then... "I wish I had my buddy... BLEW HIS A$$ AWAY". If this, would that... I’ll chalk it up to you being frustrated. I agree... "NOT on the streets."

Ive had a few- usually ricer types, couple older f bodies...I just shake my head- no such thing as a street 'race' IMO, the 'winner' will 99% of the time just be whoever backs off last, providing they dont kill somebody. time and a place for everything, public roads with traffic are not the place to race.
I really think every locality should have a dragstrip- a legal place to safely get past the BS with some real factual data...taking it to the track gets it out of your system, and its safer than most on-ramps, could probably save a few street racing deaths every year.
A kid named Zach Jordan lived just down the street from our old house, used to play with my kids/nephews years back, and he liked the old mustang...last year had his licence 3 friggin hours- tried to 'race' a buddy and hit a tree and died at the scene in a 4 cyl escort. maybe too many playstation street racer games, and fast/frivilous movies, who knows, but a shame...at least he didnt take anyone with him, but what a waste. situations like that also make it rough on anyone with a performance car- read a post from someone that a tiny chirp with the clutch can get your car towed, etc...'racing' becomes synonomous with reckless/dangerous/whatever other 'shameful' behavior you want to tack onto it- even to folks with lots of speeding tickets/collisions or whatnot...I really think 'street racing' needs a new name- its not racing

I had a kid in one of the fwd cougars try to get me to race the other day.... he kept revving at the stop light, like his 4 banger was supposed to worry someone... I revved mine a time or two during the red light. Once the light turned green he gunned it like a *******... I just pulled away like normal, didn't see anymore of him... He probably was braggin to his ricer friends how he beat a Mustang GT.... lol

Back in the day, I had a buddy who had a sign for just these circumstances.
Guy would pull up next to him and rev.
He would hold up the sign.
It said, "Let's go to Irwindale." (At the time, Irwindale was the closest drag strip.)

You did the right thing.
Regardless of the movies and the games, street racing kills.

On a side note (since you mentioned Evolution), I'll be taking our coupe over to Evolution in a few weeks to have a catted H pipe installed and the car retuned.

The Tillman dyno tune runs like a raped ape, but it runs incredibly rich...can't even leave the windows open or you'll get a headache from the fumes.

Hmm... you should stop by? Maybe something in your tune file changed? Or mechanically? How long ago did we tune it?

Do you have an off-road setup? If that's the case you may not really be running "rich". That's a false symptom that I see just about all the time with the off-road guys.

Yes, I was frustrated. My g/f and I were on our way back from a wonderful day out and I had to put of with that ***-clown! Yes, I was frustrated. Thanks for understanding my ramblings. I am against street racing. Its stupid and deadly and just wrong!!!

I remember when I first got my V6 Mustang. I was challenged only a few times but the best was probably while I was in heavy wall-to-wall traffic.

I live in PA and those of you who know the area around King of Prussia know morning traffic on 422East is just ...wonderful.

The one day, going to work, I was behind this big van getting ready for the offramp about a mile up the road and this supra comes up on my left. I didn't think anything of it beyond "cool, a supra", and thought he was going to just pass me as his lane was very open.

Suddenly he slows down and matches my speed(an exciting 25mph), and revved his engine. I just turned and looked dumbfounded at him. Him, apparently thinking I was the one who was slow on the uptake, revved his engine again. I couldn't believe it. WHERE was this genius think I was going to go? Unless I could phase through cars, I wasn't going anywhere except into this white van's cargo area.

Shaking my head I just began laughing at the stupidity of it all, and then things got REAL funny. He revved his engine a third time, but this time something went wrong because all you heard was this "KKKCHLCHHHHTTTTT!" sound from his car. No idea what caused it. No idea what the sound was. All I know is as I chugged onto my off ramp, I looked behind me and could see his car was now on the side of the road.

When I first got my new 2009 GT I was feeling bad about not having a whipple kit anymore. I was out in Shiprock NM to see my dad. I was heading back from the market with my nephew(20yrs old) in the car when a new 2010 camaro SS pulls up at the light. He rev's a few times and I return the favor. The posted speed limit was 50 mph. My personal rule is I can go only 5 mph over the posted limit. So the light turns green and we both "go" and be hits the rev limiter in 1st and I leave him behind and let off the gas at abot 53 mph. He does the ricer flyby after then all sunk down in his car at 20 mph over. That reminded me how not to let other on the street egg you on. No matter how safe of a driver you are the other person could be a moron thats going to kill a family of five.

In the end he lost the race and made me feel better about my 300 hp. It also proved how others do not know when to quite.

That stuff happens all the time in NJ, especially when I'm in my red Lightning...and it's stock!

Doesn't bother me at all, I just ignore them. That's the best remedy for idiocy. What really bothers me are people that are just utterly selfish and inconsiderate...like passing on the shoulder or tailgating in a traffic jam (there's nowhere to go!!!)

Why do middle aged Maxima / Camry drivers think their piles-o-**** are performance cars? I get messed with on a regular basis by these types.

One pulled up to a light after he nailed it to get in front of me on the off ramp and gave me a thumbs down.

His window was down and I laughed, looked around and asked where was the tree stump he was tied to. Didn't like that too much.
