Well, it all started a couple weeks ago when the condo I live in needed paint in the underground parking. They did not inform anyone that this was taking place......I park my car in there (along with many others). Needless to say, my car went from Mineral Grey to Mineral Grey with Windveil Blue spots.

I talked to the condo board, no apollogies, no nothing. The guy said he wanted to try and clean it himself....Nah. I took it into a professional detailing place and sent the bill to the condo board....it was paid in full.

BUT........

The place who cleaned my car, they let some new guy use a razor blade on my windows to get the paint off. Not a good idea for 3 of my windows were scratched all to h3ll. I brought this to their attention. It was handled very well on managements part. They agreed to fully pay for my windows to be replaced. Roughly $3500 in glass.

Am I glad that ordeal is finally over.

People in this world seem to have less and less respect for other people's property.

Agreed. It's almost like the guy the painted my car was pissed with me because he had to pay to have it cleaned. We did have quite the shouting match at one point, but everything is fine now.

When they were painting the exterior of the condo complex in my neighborhood, the painters actually covered every car in the parking lot with sheets of plastic to protect them. Sorry to hear you had a problem but I'm glad it's almost over.

One time at my college, they were painting the football stadium. Thousands of cars across campus were covered in little white spots. The college's solution was to pay everyone to have them buffed out by a detail shape, which cost... hundreds of thousands of dollars. In return, my tuition trippled from the time I started to the time I graduated, which I'm sure had nothing to do with it. (sarcasm)

I used to work at a detail shop, and over spray cars came in on ocasion, the best way to remove overspray without harming finish is to use clay bar, also works on smooth plastic like headlights

for glass only tripple or 4 O fine steel wool works well (clay bar also works

for a pro to clay bar a med sized car and then rewax takes about 4 hrs,
some cars needed to be buffed then waxed after clay

That was pretty irresponsible of the condo board and the painter not to inform people of the painting. At least everyone made good on their mistakes. Too bad you had to go through the hassle though. :notnice:

it could have been worse. You could have had your car damaged by gravel resulting in every body panel being covered in stone chips. My entire car gets repainted in 7 weeks. :bang:

That does suck John. I look forward to seeing the car when you get it done though. Hopefully the quality will be as good or maybe even better than before.

take a look at what the glass tint guy did to my car when they were installing the tint. They droped a halogen shop lamp onto my carpet behind the passenger seat. Needless to say he had the carpet replaced in a timely fashion and I got a hundred bucks off my tint job.

Ooops

Good grief Nick! You better have gotten the carpet replaced and a discount. Otherwise you should discount him!

John took his car offroading on a gravel road, one that had not been one originally if I remember correctly. Another case of the city working on roads and not posting warning signs or something.

I've never had trouble using my razor scraper on glass.

What is with our new Mustangs since they seem to attract people/things to damage them?
in the last month I've had several close calls while driving my car...
On August 20 I went on the Santa Barbara cruise with the guys from SVT Perfomance. While driving up the 101 I saw some cars stopped on the other side and some people running along the shoulder, and a few seconds later I passed a surfboard laying on the shoulder...apparantly from one of the cars that had stopped on the other side.
When I got to Santa Barbara I met up with another guy from the cruise that told me about a surfboard flying over his car (I guess he was a couple minutes ahead of me on the cruise).
The next weekend (August 28) I went on a cruise from Woodland Hills to Malibu with another club. On my way home I was just getting on the freeway when a Ford Explorer rolled several times on the freeway coming to rest on the ramp right in front of me, then about an hour later ANOTHER Explorer changed lanes causing me to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident.

Yesterday it happened AGAIN...
I took my car to have it washed (hand car wash) and had just left the carwash and started to go through the intersection next to the carwash with the green light, when a car ran the red right in front of me causing me to slam on the brakes.

With all the close calls I've had along with all the accidents, minor dents and dings and now paint damage makes me nervous to take my car out sometimes.

a blade is ok if not nicked and new, but even a new blade can scratch if used wrong with todays very concave and convex glass

if doing a large area first try a solvent, then superfine steel wool

Agree fully, glad to hear it was all resolved to your satisfaction.

It is doable, but a razor can also scratch glass very easily.
